Last night I stayed up late and watched the movie, Love Again. It is a 2023 romantic comedy-drama film. The movie stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Sam Heughan (Outlanders), and Celine Dion in her first feature film. It has a 24% on Rotten Tomatoes BUT a 91% audience score which means people like it no matter what Rotten Tomatoes thinks about it. Maybe Rotten Tomatoes was having a really dreadful day. Netflix says it is in their Top Ten… officially the most watched movie since Netflix released it. Hmmm. I liked it and recommended it to a friend that loves (like he REALLY loves) Celine Dion, who just happens to have five new original tracks in the movie. Have I sold you yet?
It’s so hot the catfish are already fried when you catch them.
Recently, my mother had a stroke. This one was a little more serious than the previous mini-strokes and has required weeks of rehab, plus a move to where she can be helped more than what was available in her current independent-care apartment. As we all get older, we wonder how we can help our kids the most, so we can age-in-place and not require assistance unless completely necessary. Well, I have decided that the very best thing I can do for my kids is to have good insurance. Our children will always have their own lives and their own families, so anything they need to do to help us will be a bit of an inconvenience. BUT if we have good insurance, then most of the rest will fall into place. I am so lucky that my mom has great insurance. Just saying… it’s never too early to look ahead.
It’s so hot, chickens are laying hard-boiled eggs.
Lily Collins says she was obsessed with Polly Pockets when she was a child. My daughter even quit sucking her thumb after I bribed her with a giant set of Polly Pockets when she was about four. Lena Dunham will direct a new Polly Pockets movie, and Lily Collins will star in the film inspired by the tiny character and her miniature friends. Mattel is now selling the colorful I am Kenough (I am Ken Enough) sherpa hoodie worn by Ryan Gosling in Barbie, after everyone yearned for the same look. $60. Ken, you are enough! Beyonce has teamed with Tiffany & Co. to honor her Renaissance World Tour. A special collection of jewelry is available with profits funding scholarships. Prices range from $275 to $700.
It’s so hot the frozen pizza I bought at the grocery store was ready to eat by the time I got home.
Today was the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that left 2,977 dead across NY, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania… at the World Trade Center (2,753 deaths), the Pentagon (184 deaths), and the flight 93 crash (40 deaths). On September 11th, 343 killed were firefighters. Firefighter union leaders say since then, 341 firefighters have died of Ground Zero-related illnesses, including the effects of toxic contaminants, traumatic injuries and physical and emotional stress. According to the World Trade Center Health Program, over 71,000 individuals have been diagnosed with physical and mental health conditions brought on by exposure to the dust, smoke, debris and trauma of the 9/11 attacks. More than 1000 human remains have yet to be identified, but two more people were identified just in the past few days. Advancement in technology has allowed officials to identify remains that had tested negative in the past. Do you remember where you were when the U.S. was attacked? I sure do, and today I will remind my children where they were. Now is the time to make sure your children realize that a true American hero is not what happened on January 6th, a most shameful day in history.
One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9-11. Here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice. George W. Bush

I always look for a woman who has a tattoo. I see a woman with a tattoo, and I’m thinking, okay, here’s a gal who’s capable of making a decision she’ll regret in the future. – Richard Jeni
A 48-year-old Iola man in Grimes, Co. admitted in Houston Federal Court that over a four-year period, he ran a fake car raffle, and pocketed over $75,000 in profits. The American Red Cross is asking you to roll up your sleeves and donate blood because supply levels have fallen nearly 25% since August, and there were back-to-back months of climate-driven disasters. A friend took me to Backstreet Café for lunch recently. Did you know that Chef Hugo Ortega started at Backstreet Café as a dishwasher and a busser in 1987 and is now a 5 times James Beard nominated chef! If you want something bad enough, you can get there. J.M. Smucker, the 126-year-old maker of fruit spreads, Jif Peanut Butter, and Folgers Coffee, announced they will acquire Hostess Brands in a $5.6 BILLION deal. You say Hostess, and I think Ding Dongs. Yum. Back in February, two goats wandered into a Target store in Spring. No one knows how they got there. Hip-Hop is 50 years old. Six years ago, for the first time, Hip-Hop unseated rock as the dominant music in the U.S. Artists like Jay-Z, Diddy, Dr. Dre, Rihanna and Berner that are millionaires or better yet, billionaires in a hip-hop world. The NFL season has started, and 70 million Americans plan to bet on games this year. A Costco worker returned an envelope he found with almost $4,000 that a customer had left behind. Costco located the customer by checking surveillance footage then matched it to Costco membership. Now the man’s name is on a plaque inside that Costco store in California.
You know you’re in trouble when you shake hands, and your tattoo also shakes. – John J. Daly
A Pennsylvania man earned a Guinness World Record by going to the movies 777 times in a one-year period. A British dad earned the record for the most tattoos of the same name on his body in 2017, when he had his daughter’s name, Lucy, inked on his back 267 times. Then he lost the record when an American, Diedra Vigil, had her own name tattooed on her body 300 times. Not to be outdone, the British dad reclaimed his title by adding 400 more Lucy tattoos – 200 on each leg. Oh, my.
Your body is a temple, but how long can you live in the same house before you redecorate. – Anonymous
At Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO), they stock their feeders year-round and during migration at Quintana. This helps to augment natural foods, and it also helps their monthly banding research project. But they need Black Oil Sunflower Seeds and Chicken Scratch, just in case you have a bag laying around your garage… or if you happen to make a trip to Tractor Supply or the feed store this week. Please remember them. The hummingbirds are also out in numbers, so they have a huge need for granulated sugar donations for their sugar water. Please bring it by 299 Hwy 332 W Lake Jackson. Thanks! Or bring it by The Source Weekly office and we will take it to them.
Don’t forget: The Xtreme Hummingbird Xtravaganza is September 16th & 23rd from 8am – 12pm at Gulf Coast Observatory, 299 Hwy 332W Lake Jackson. I took my coffee on the back porch this morning and watched the hummingbirds. They’re so cute and beautiful, and very hungry right now!
Well, here I sit, after Labor Day, prissing about in my white jeans. I think I wrote about wearing white after Labor Day last year (or the year before), but as they say, if the shoe fits, then write about it again. As a proper Southern girl, you’re not raised to believe you can wear white after Labor Day. Our mommas firmly established and beat this law into us as we grew up. Tradition always told us that white is light weight and practical in summer. In the early 20th century, there was no AC, it was hot inside and out, and people did not cruise around in tank tops, shorts, and flip-flops. No, they were pretty formally dressed. White also made a statement determining the ‘wearer’ was rich enough to have clothes for different seasons, like now wearing clothes with big gold logos. But times have changed, our climate is changing and yes, our attitudes have changed, so wear white after Labor Day. I don’t want to be alone. Have a great week. Thank you for reading and shopping with us.
