What I Heard This Week! 12-05-2019

What I Heard This Week December 5, 2019

Bats are confused because the warm weather is extending their season at the world’s largest urban bat colony, in Austin. The reason they migrate is for their food supply. Since September was the hottest ever recorded in Austin and October had 11 days with temperatures in the 90s, there is belief that over time bats may not migrate at all. This could be a concern if the food supply is not there – crops affected by severe drought means there are no insects. Cold and moist weather work as a trigger for crickets to mate, lay eggs and die, but it’s also a trigger for the bats to head south to warmer weather. If it’s warm here, there’s nothing to encourage them to leave. Climate change. Bat Conversation International, a nonprofit dedicated to bat education and protection, estimates that the suppression of agricultural pests by bats is worth about $74 an acre in Texas. Isn’t that better than pesticides. I still believe that each of us should have a bat house in our yard.

The muzzle of a lion is like a fingerprint – no two lions have the same pattern of whiskers.

Some of you may have heard that the University of Houston now has robots to deliver food to students and facility. I refused to believe that this was a positive idea when the school could use a multitude of other things, but my daughter has assured me that this is an outside company that provides the robots, not the school. Hmmm. A UH student has started a petition stating that the robots should be more representative of the city’s culture by being enhanced with “elbows” so they would be true Houstonians because of the car culture. Hmmm, obviously I’m not ‘college student smart’ so I Googled, “what is a car elbow?”  That didn’t get me very far – just lots of exercises for your elbows. So, I tried, “what is an elbow for a car?” Nope. Nothing. Then I tried “what is an elbow for a wheel on a car?”  Bingo. Urban Dictionary calls them 84’s because originally they were an upgrade option on the 1984 Cadillac Eldorado. It’s a spoked rim that seems to be very desirable these days, especially with the southern Texas hip-hop community. You know the rims that stick out so far that you think they’re going to catch your car tire and rip it apart. Low riders. Super Pokes.

Kingwood High School was originally built in 1978. That’s 41 years ago. The building was flooded and remained flooded for 11 days after Harvey, with floodwaters 5.5 feet deep in the front of the building and 1.5 feet deep in the back. The school district has now received a $25 million FEMA grant to rebuild.

Mad About You was a TV series that ran from 1992 to 1999. I didn’t watch much TV then, but I remember Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt playing a recently married couple dealing with everyday life situations with lots of wit and wisdom. Fast forward twenty years with this new revival and the couple are about to help their daughter (who was born in 1997), pack up and move out of their home and along to college.  They are now empty nesters. This subject should provide plenty of good humor to laugh and cry about for quite a few seasons.

Taylor Swift left Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, in the dust with his 24-win record wins after the American Music Awards honored Swift with the top prize, artist of the year (beating Ariana Grande, Drake, Halsey, and Post Malone), then handing her the artist of the decade. She now stands with 25 wins in these fan-voted awards.

NYC has banned flavored electronic cigarettes. Most of those sickened over the past few months said they vaped THC, the high-inducing ingredient in marijuana, but officials now believe a thickening agent used in black market THC products may be the culprit.

111,111,111 times x’s11,111,111equals = 12,345,678,987,654,321, a palindromic number.Like 16461, for example, it is symmetrical. The term palindromic is derived from palindrome.A palindrome is a word, phrase or sequence that reads the same backward or forward. Madam, I’m Adam. Go deliver a dare, vile dog. I’m a Lasagna Hog. Murder for a jar of red rum. Do geese see God. Rotor. Racecar. Rotator. Repaper. Level. Radar. Civic. Kayak. The list goes on and on. There you go. You are smarter now.

Looking for something Christmas-y to do?Christmas Belles, the Southern-Fried Yuletide comedy has one more week at Dow Arena Theater of The Center for the Arts & Sciences. A show full of laughs. Caution, it contains mild adult humor. 979-265-7731 or www.brazosportcenter.org. Season of Light show continues at the BASF Planetarium through Dec. 27. If you’ve never seen it, you need to. They explore the question, “If the star of Bethlehem was a natural phenomenon, what might it have been?” 979-265-7661.  The Grand Ol’ Christmas Show is back with Blue Water Highway and Texas Piano Man, Robert Ellis. It’s a live, one-of-a-kind musical variety show that I promise you will LOVE. GoChristmasShow.com for the schedule that includes Victoria, Houston, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Lake Jackson, Wichita Falls, Lewisville, Ft. Worth. They’re at House of Blues this weekend.

On our way to Bastrop for Thanksgiving, the kids and I were amazed at all the red-tailed hawks dotting the countryside. They were just sitting and watching for a little breakfast or lunch of their own. I once watched two hawks build their nest, raise three babies and teach them to fly. Beautiful creatures.

The BASF Dog Park behind the LJ Recreation Center is set to have their grand opening 10 a.m. December 7th. There will be walking paths, shade, cooling pads, water fountains and dog washing stations and open dawn to dusk. There will be park rules, but we all need rules. Come celebrate.

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!”-How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Wheel of Fortune host, Pat Sajak, had emergency surgery, so his longtime co-host Vanna White filled in for him while he recovered. These episodes will begin airing December 9th, in case you watch The Wheel.

When I saw this video, I was shocked. A couple in Splendora caught a white Chevy Tahoe driving erratically, then struck the couples Jetta. The couple called 911 and described what was happening.  The couple lowered their car window and told the driver of the Tahoe that they had a baby in the car.  After much ugly conversation, the driver of the Tahoe took a hard right towards an exit but didn’t notice a motorcycle in his way, hitting the motorcyclist and his bike. The Tahoe driver is in custody and faces two second-degree felonies. The plot thickens. He was out on bond at the time for a previous DWI and child endangerment charges. And his wife and 7-year-old child were in the vehicle. Nothing like setting a good example with a little road rage.

Money, Inc. announced their 20 Best Places to Live in Texas. I’ll give you the top ten. 10. Beaumont. 9. El Paso. 8. McAllen. 7. Brownsville. 6. Cinco Ranch. 5. Frisco. 4. League City. 3. Allen #2. LAKE JACKSON and 1. Seabrook. They said, “Lake Jackson is voted one of the top ten medium-sized cities in the United States to live. The population is just over 27,000, so if you enjoy living in an area that is free from the hectic pace and noise of a larger city, this may be a town to consider. The cost of living is 6% lower than the Texas state average with an average annual income of $75,473, and a crime rate that is 25% lower than the state of Texas average. The median home price is $148,700 with the average monthly rent at $937.” Wow.

If you are looking for a great opportunity to donate this holiday season, then look no more. The Source Weekly has a Blue Santa box in our office, and we would love to have a few more unwrapped toys to share. TBT Real Estate and Brazosport Cares Food Pantry are collecting simple hygiene products at 916 North Gulf Blvd, Freeport. Food isn’t the only thing that people need right now. A new toothbrush or a bottle of shampoo is always appreciated. Military Moms and Wives need help this year with postage for sending their care packages. It costs $14.35 for each box and they will be shipping out more than 3,000 boxes this month. Let’s not forget to always take the time to give back to the community where we live, work and raise our children.

Guess who I met at Hobby Lobby on Saturday? He was dressed in blue jeans, with a white short-sleeved t-shirt, candy-cane suspenders and I spotted him on the fabric isle giving the bolt of red velvet quite a test to see if it was soft enough for him. I watched him knowing ‘someone’ was going to get some new britches and top this year. I shopped in that section for a few minutes longer, then made my way towards the front of the store, but not before I saw him in line squeezing the red bolt tightly in his arms, while waiting his turn for the ladies to cut the fabric. There also happened to be a line of small children with sparkles in their eyes, surrounding and calling out to him. He responded with a big “ho-ho-ho” and “how are you?” I remember seeing Santa at Dido’s one day in flip flops, cargo shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. He came up to me and asked how I was doing, hugged my neck and then he was off. My two young children sitting in the back of the car, wanted to know why Santa didn’t have on his velvet outfit and I had to explain that he only wears that during the winter. When you go to Dido’s to eat, you can dress a little more informally…or even Hobby Lobby to shop.

According to the United Nations, the world must slash its emissions of planet-warming greenhouse gases by 7.6 percent every year to 2030 or miss the chance to avert devastating climate change and avoid environmental catastrophe.

Someone sent me this: Your entire life can really change in a year…you just gotta love yourself enough to know you deserve more, be brave enough to demand more, and be disciplined enough to actually work for more.

Have a great week. Shop Local as much as you can. Thanks for reading this. Lisa

What I Heard This Week! 06-27-2019

What I Heard This Week June 26, 2019

Some weeks, I must ‘search’ for information that I think will be entertaining for you to read, then other weeks it’s everywhere I look. Hope you enjoy this week.

Oh, NO. Did you hear that Whataburger sold a majority stake in their company to a Chicago-based investment firm? Chicago is known for hot dogs and deep-dish pizza not burgers. The same week, Schlitterbahn announced the sale of their water parks in Galveston and New Braunfels to a corporation in Ohio. Ohio is known for Buckeyes. What the heck is a buckeye? Whatadisgace. Chicago and Ohio are so, not Texas. J.J. Watt, urged his more than five million followers on Twitter to “all chip in and buy Whataburger back and add kolaches.” Hmmm. One man tweeted, “182 men didn’t die at The Alamo just so we could give Whataburger over to Chicago.” Schlitterbahn did sell leaving the Henry family with an extra $261 million in their pockets, so that’s understandable, but still…Don’t Mess with Texas.

On a happy note, Texas Monthly has a new billionaire owner. Her name is Randa Duncan Williams and Forbes ranks her as the 290th wealthiest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $6.4 billion. Williams is a Houstonian and will take over Texas Monthly on June 30. At least someone from Texas is buying the magazine instead of Maine, Louisiana or China. Long Live Texas Monthly.

There was a ‘Love or Money’ survey. 8/10 people prefer love over money. My mother always said, “You can love a rich man just as easy as you can love a poor man.”

Remember ‘The Brady Bunch’ which aired from 1969 to 1974? Of course, you do. “Very Brady Renovation” is a new HGTV special that will be aired sometime in September. The Brady house was built in 1959 and is located in what should be a quiet neighborhood in North Hollywood, if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s ‘one of the most photographed houses’ in the country. For the original sitcom, the famous house was used only in exterior shots and all interior scenes were filmed at a studio. But for this special project the entire home will be renovated to look just like it did in 1969. Orange kitchen counters, open staircase and much more to reminisce about. In addition to Marcia, Peter, Cindy, Bobby, Jan and Greg, they will be joined by HGTV stars Steve Ford and Leanne Ford – Restored by the Fords, Jasmine Roth – Hidden Potential, Karen E. Laine and Mina Starsiak – Good Bones, Jonathan Scott and Drew Scott – Property Brothers and Lara Spencer – Flea Market Flip. The 2,477-square-foot home that sits on a 12,573-square-foot lot in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley was first listed last year for $1.88 million, but because it is a part of Hollywood history, there were many offers. HGTV was in a bidding war with former ‘NSYNC member Lance Bass and ended up paying $3.5 million for the home.

Facebook announced that it plans to launch a cryptocurrency called Libra. The digital cash will use encryption technology to make it secure and plans to work like Bitcoin, but with a stable value. A separate company, Calibra, is supposed to keep Libra users’ financial information separate and safe from the social network. Facebook hopes to recruit at least 100 partners who are willing to pay $10 million each to be a part of the Libra venture. Just recently, Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook, stated that Facebook is too big. Hmmm.  Facebook won’t run Libra, but will form a nonprofit called Libra Association, headquartered in Geneva, that will oversee the new currency and its use.

A judge announced that the trial for Dimitrios Pagourtzis, the suspect accused of killing eight classmates and two educators during the May 18, 2018 Santa Fe High School massacre, has been moved to Fort Bend County. Attorneys filed a motion in January requesting a change of venue, saying their client could not receive a fair trial in Galveston County because of pretrial publicity. Trial is scheduled for early 2020. I can’t imagine how changing the location of ‘this’ trial could change anything.

Best-selling author, Judith Krantz, died at the age of 91. She will be remembered for her racy romance novels, Mistral’s Daughter, I’ll Take Manhattan, Scruples and many others. Before she became a novelist at age 50, she was a writer at Good Housekeeping, Ladies Home Journal and Cosmopolitan.

Claus von Bulow, known for being convicted and then acquitted of trying to kill Sunny, his millionaire, American heiress socialite wife in 1979, died at 92. This left her in a temporary coma, as well as insulin overdose in 1980 which left her in a persistent vegetative state for the rest of her life. The 1990 movie and book were called “Reversal of Fortune” and the book was a very good read.

About 23 years ago (I was pregnant with Gage so that’s how I remember,) I drove to Waco and brought my granddaddy back to LJ. My grandma had just died, and I needed to spend some time with this special man. H.I. Tipps was a barber in Waco and growing up I realized that he knew just about everyone. We had the best conversations as we traveled through every little town, each one leading him to a memory about the people that he had met through the years. It was great, and I mean REALLY, exceptional great. We ate, antique shopped and stopped at a roadside stand to buy a watermelon. He told me everything to look for in a perfect melon. Either I wasn’t listening, or I didn’t think it was important or I wasn’t a very enthusiastic learner…whatever, but I now wish that I had listened to what he was trying to tell me. After three bad watermelon purchases last month, I Googled it. 1.) If the stem is green, it was picked too early. If the stem is brown, then the melon ripened on the ground. Perfect. 2.) Look for obvious yellow spots where the melon was allowed to bathe in the sun to ripen. The bigger the yellow (not white) spot, the better the melon. 3.) Press on the yellow spot and if it has a little ‘give’ to the melon, then it’s ripe. If the melon is too hard, it’s not ripe. 4.) Tap or thump the melon – if it sounds hollow then it’s high-water content and will be super sweet and juicy. If it doesn’t sound hollow, then it is not juicy. I do remember that Granddaddy was a great thumper. I sure wish he was still here because I would listen hard and take notes. He was one of the smartest, most gentle, loving men I have ever known.  (Don’t forget your saltshaker.)

Garden and Recycling Tip: In the heat of the summer, it’s hard to keep a garden alive in South Texas. Fill an empty gallon milk jug (water, orange juice, iced tea, soda bottle) with water and set it next to your thirsty garden plant. Take a safety pin and puncture 2-3 holes in the bottom close to the plant that needs watering. Do this in the evening then go do something else. The jug will slowly water your plant, so the water doesn’t run off. I guess you could add your fertilizer to the jug too. You might want to put a little pea gravel in the bottom to keep the jug in place until you water again. In the past, I have taken my jugs and put nail-size holes in the bottoms of the jugs, then buried all but the lid of the jug, close to the new plant, then just fill the jug up with water. It’s a perfect size hole for the water hose. This method tends to water deeper for plants that need deep roots, but both ways are good. One source said to punch a single hole at the top, so the jug doesn’t constrict. Another source said to be sure to put the lid back on to prevent excess evaporation and it will help keep mosquitoes from laying eggs inside the jug.

Four years ago, Kentucky expected to bring high-speed internet across the state. Because of delays, cost overruns and “ravenous squirrels” that have chewed through quite a bit of wiring and cables, company representatives are asking for an additional $110 million to finish the project. Yikes. In Texas, we just feed corn, acorns and peanuts to our squirrels.

We all love the “Grand Ol’ Christmas Show.” Greg Essington, Zack Kibodeaux, Catherine Clark, Will Hearn, Claire Kibodeaux, Kirsten Gatewood and many, many others are rehearsing right now to entertain us with a new show called “The Grand Ol’ American Radio Show.” Their tour of Texas begins this weekend at the Clarion in LJ. Blue Water Highway band will be backed by the Liberty Radio Orchestra & Gospel Singers celebrating the culture and music of a feel-good American summer. The music is great. www.GoShowProductions.com/tour. Remember that it’s THIS Saturday and Sunday.

Thank you to the 2 sweet ladies that weeded and trimmed the roses at the entrance of my subdivision last week. It looks great! I am working to get the city to put down some mulch for weed control. Thank you, Ray Jess, for reading this column and commenting. Thanks again to Cora for always smiling when she checks me out while I’m buying cat litter at Walmart. I’m on a journey to find the BEST cat litter in the world 😊. Thank you to the checker at Nordstrom Rack that gave me a wad of paper towels on Saturday because an incredible rain came while I was in the dressing room and I had left my windows cracked. Thank you for the manager at Home Goods who went ahead and gave me store credit for the pillows I returned. I swear, the receipt was in my hand when I left the house.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have introduced a $10.4 million plan to expand shopping at The Silos in Waco. They are calling it a new retail village at The Magnolia Market and will feature more shops, a whiffle ball field, a historic church that will be relocated to the area and some other attractions. This area draws around 30,000 visitors a week and construction has started. Wow. It is fun to see how they have single-handedly changed the Waco that existed 10 years ago.  It sure makes it hard to find an affordable hotel room now, but Waco desperately needed something like this.

Dr. Marijuana Pepsi Vandyck just received her PhD; writing her dissertation on unusual names. Her aunt said that cannabis was everywhere in 1972, the year that Marijuana was born and after smoking, her parents enjoyed cooling off with a sweet, fizzy can of Pepsi. So, when you think you’ve got it bad, please remember Marijuana Pepsi. She could have changed her name, but she didn’t. By the way, her older sister is named Kimberly and her younger sister is Robin. Go figure.

Thanks again for reading this. Don’t forget to give your Granddaddy a kiss and a hug (from Lisa.)

What I Heard This Week! March 21, 2019

What I Heard This Week March 20, 2019

This is super interesting, and I will try to explain it simply. On April 6th, 2019, your GPS may not work anymore. Globally, they may not work anymore. Think back to 1999 and the Y2K bug, except this could really happen. GPS stands for Global Positioning System and it’s a network of about 30 satellites orbiting the Earth. The system was originally developed by the US government for military navigation but now anyone with a GPS device, mobile phone or handheld GPS unit can receive the radio signals. Wherever you are in the world, at least four GPS satellites are visible to you at any time. Each one transmits information about its position and the current time at regular intervals. These signals are traveling at the speed of light and are intercepted by your GPS receiver which calculates how far away each satellite is, based on how long it took for the messages to arrive. Once it has received information from at least three satellites, your GPS can pinpoint your location. OK. There’s more. GPS signals from satellites include a timestamp, needed to calculate location, that stores the week number, so every 1,024 weeks or roughly every 20 years, the counter rolls over from 1,023 to zero. The first Saturday in April will mark the end of the 1,024th week. It will be the second time that the rollover has happened, the first being in 1999. Some fear that many things may be affected because over the past twenty years, more and more systems have integrated GPS into their operations. In April 2018 the US Department of Homeland Security issued a memo to make GPS users aware of the situation and strongly recommends owners and operators of critical infrastructure to prepare for the rollover. Hmmm. Drones, beware. If your GPS tells you to drive into the lake, don’t do it.

Someone just blasted down the street in front of my office in a big black truck and beeped their stupid airhorn that sounds like a train whistle. I’m a firm believer that they should be outlawed.

St. Patrick’s Day was Sunday. I came to the office for a little bit both Saturday and Sunday evening. Because it was St. Patrick’s Day week-end and because now we have so many bars, eating and drinking places in downtown LJ, I wasn’t too surprised to see guys in kilts, women in strange green costumes, men in strange green costumes, green striped leggings and a whole lot of celebration and rowdiness. All this for green beer.

Steve Martin –Boy, those French: they have a different word for everything!”

The first day of spring was the 20th. That means you can pick up your FREE package of flower or veggie seeds at our office when you place your $5 classified or FREE garage sale ad. That seems like a pretty good deal. So, let’s go over this…you need to find something to sell that is wasting away in your closet, garage, attic, kitchen cabinet -come place your ad and grab your seeds. When you sell your stuff, put the money in your pocket and in a few weeks your flowers will start blooming. It’s the gift that keeps on giving plus the bees and butterflies will love you for it.  😊

A woman never tells her age, but Barbie turns 60 this month. Barbie made her debut in 1959 and has had more than 200 careers. To celebrate this, Mattel is releasing the Pink Collection. I pulled up Proudly Pink Silkstone Barbie who has hot pink hair – just not my thing. I did read an article about the lady that designed Barbie’s clothes. Carol Spencer is now 86 years-old and has chronicled her journey in a new book called Dressing Barbie. She worked for several years as a fashion designer and illustrator in the apparel industry before beginning her career at Mattel as fashion designer for Barbie in 1963. Spencer said, “Times are changing and we’re all evolving, but I don’t think she was so out of proportion – people don’t understand doll scale. And she’s a doll! Part of Barbie will always be fantasy.” She also said that some of her favorites looks/outfits came from her own closet. If she was wearing it, then Barbie got an outfit just like it. My first Barbie was a red-headed pony-tail in a black/white stripe bathing suit. Wish I still had her, but I gave Barbie to a little neighbor girl when I was in high school, along with my barbie dream house and tons of clothes and furniture. I now encourage my own children to keep some of their toys for their own kids.

Seen on Facebook: Out of all my body parts, my eyeballs are in the best shape because I roll them like 342 times a day.

Recently, when the office microwave died, I brought the one from my house. I figured I could learn to live at my house without it. Both kids are away at school. How hard could it be. I even bought some small pots to heat up water for my morning pour-over coffee and a small skillet for leftovers. How hard could it be. Wait a sec, I already said that. Obviously, it’s hard for me. Did you know that reheating coffee and milk makes a huge mess when you leave it on low heat and go back to the bathroom to finish getting dressed? Yep. I did it twice. So, today, the Everyday Cheapskate in the Chronicle said to use automatic dishwashing detergent on the horrible, burned-on mess.(Guess I’m not the only one.) She said to fill the(in my case already destroyed) stainless steel pan, nonstick (ha), glass, porcelain or enameled cast iron with water and a detergent pod until the pod dissolves, then take a non-scratch scrub sponge and I quote, “wipe away the remains of the mess.”  I haven’t tried it but I’m sure that my burning days are not over. Do not use this on either cast iron or aluminum – neither is considered dishwasher-safe.

How do you decide which festival to go to?The Woodstock 50 Festival will take place August 16-18 in Watkins Glen, NY, about 115 miles NW of the original Woodstock site. Michael Lang, the producer and co-creator of the original Woodstock festival in 1969, is planning the festival to mark the 50th anniversary. The names of over 80 musicians or groups was just released, and it is unbelievable. A mix of old and new, but the list still needs more of the originals.

Steve Martin – “I got a flue shot and now my chimney works perfectly.”

Recent Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke says his campaign raised $6.1 million in its first 24 hours, beating all other Democratic candidates to date who have disclosed their first-day figures, so far. US Senator Bernie Sanders raised $5.9 million in his first 24 hours. Sanders’ campaign said over 225,000 individuals donated making their average donation $27. At this point I Googled ‘list of presidential candidates,’ and was very surprised at the numbers published by Ballotpedia. There are 208 Democratic candidates, 80 Republican candidates, 20 Libertarian candidates and 12 Green candidates who have filed with the FEC to run for president in 2020. They have a historical comparison chart of presidential candidates who filed with the FEC from 1980 to 2016.

It is believed that the 2020 election will be the one in which climate, flooded coastlines and global warming will finally be discussion questions. I sure hope so.

Igloo has issued a voluntary recall on various coolers after the father of a 5-year-old Florida boy shared a home surveillance video showing his son getting locked inside a cooler. The boy began playing inside, under the lid until he pushed the locking clip out and the lid locked. The child was a good screamer and his parents were able to find him quite quickly.

Mike Trout is signing a 12-year, $430 million contract to stay with the LA Angels, a new record for the largest contract in baseball history. They say he will go down in history with Willie Mays, Babe Ruth and others since he is the best player baseball has ever had.

“What’s Hoover got to do with it? Besides, I had a better year than he did.” – Babe Ruth, on being paid a higher salary than US President Herbert Hoover.

The creator of one of the most recognized brands of jelly beans, Jelly Belly, has founded a new company, Spectrum Confections, that has released a line of cannabis-infused sweets for candy lovers everywhere. David Klein started Jelly Belly in 1976. The new psychedelic treats are offered in 38 flavors and each recipe has been tested to ensure that the correct amount of cannabidiol (CBD) is added to each bean. Some vendors have been selling the beans for about $2 each. But sorry, according to their website the inventory is depleted at this time.

Have a great spring weekend. Thanks again for picking up The Source Weekly.

  • What I Heard This Week 10-26-2023

Former US astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, recently remarried for the fourth time, which also happened to be on the occasion of his 93rd birthday. This time it was to Dr. Anca Faur, his 63-year-old, long-time companion (who looks like she wants to be 27), has a PhD in chemical engineering, and is now the executive vice president of Aldrin’s company, Buzz Aldrin Ventures.  He was first married to Joan Ann Archer in 1954 until divorcing in 1974. The next year he married Beverly Van Zile; they divorced after three years. His third marriage was to Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988 on Valentine's Day, divorcing 23 years later. Looks like he hasn’t given up on ‘love’ quite yet. He has sued two of his children and his former business manager claiming they stole money from him and are slandering his legacy, and that they also undermined his "personal romantic relationships" by forbidding him from getting married. His children say he is also spending money at an alarming rate. Sounds like those children are out of luck. There is a new sheriff in town and her name is MRS. Aldrin. ☹ Notes: Aldrin is also a strong advocate for human exploration of Mars. In 2002, he escaped assault charges after punching a man who demanded he swear on a Bible that the Moon landing was not staged. Good for him. He also said, “Tang sucks. “
