What I Heard This Week 11-03-2022

What I Heard This Week November 2, 2022

Daylight Saving Time: Sunday, November 6th. Fall Back, so you get an extra hour. Smartphones should adjust to the time automatically, but you’ll need to manually change clocks on your car radio, oven, alarm clock and the other standalone clocks around your home. In March, the U.S. Senate unanimously approved legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent across the country starting in 2023. It is called The Sunshine Protection Act. But we tried this for two years in 1974, and people hated it. According to the History News Network, Congress voted on December 14, 1973, to put the US on daylight saving time for two years. President Nixon signed the bill the next day. The US had gone to permanent daylight-saving time before, during World War II. Then, too, the measure was enacted to save fuel. Permanent DST wasn’t close to the wackiest idea about time floating around—Paul Mullinax, a geographer who worked at the Pentagon, came up with the idea of putting the continental US on a single time zone. “USA Time” would apply from Bangor to Barstow, eliminate jet lag, and standardize TV schedules. His idea even got traction in Congress, via a bill from US Representative Patsy Mink of Hawaii. “The human being is a very adaptive animal,” he said. “There is no reason we have to be a slave to the sun.”

Respect yourself enough to walk away from anything that no longer serves you, grows you, or makes you happy.

San Antonio police arrested a 33-year-old woman who they were told was mishandling a gun at a Halloween party, causing it to fire and wound an 18-month-old baby, then she left the scene. The baby was unconscious and suffering from a chest wound when he was brought to the hospital (why didn’t they call 911 for EMS), being told that the child was injured by a cell phone that exploded while he was holding it. Hmmm. Technically that was right, but police say the child actually was hit by the bullet when it went through the cell phone he was holding. Our world is actually getting stupider by the moment, and we are allowing it to happen. Whoever owns the gun should be charged too. You know, the very ‘responsible’ gun owners. Humans are so messy now.

A couple were walking their dog in Idaho and spotted something in the bushes. It was a 3.5-foot alligator. Now in Texas, that’s no big deal, but in Idaho possession of an alligator without appropriate permission is prohibited, as is the discharge of captive crocodilians into the wild. Idaho Fish and Game are investigating where the alligator may have come from, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Southwest Regional Office during normal business hours, or the Citizens Against Poaching hotline. They take their alligator possession pretty seriously in Idaho. It’s just a baby, but it will be euthanized or given to a licensed facility unless an owner is located.

Hannah Pick-Goslar, who died at age 93, was a childhood friend of Anne Frank who recalled how they had met again in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp shortly before Anne Frank’s death. Hannah recalled Anne as “a spicy girl” who was proud of her pretty hair, collected pictures of the Dutch and British families and always wanted to be in the middle of things. “My mother, who was very religious, once described Anne with a sentence, ‘God knows everything. But Anne knows everything better.’”

Jerry Lee Lewis, rock n’ roll pioneer, died at 87 with funerals being held in Desoto, County, Mississippi and Ferriday, Louisiana, and will be live streamed.  He was known for such hits as Great Balls of Fire and Whole Lot of Shakin’ Going On and was one of the last of a generation of performers which included Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Buddy Holly, and Little Richard. He is survived by his 7th wife.

Julie Powell, author of her bestselling hit memoir Julie & Julia died at 49. Her book Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously released in 2005, was based on a series of her blog posts and chronicled a yearlong journey in which she cooked all 524 recipes in Julia Child’s classic cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. We were all hooked, then the 2009 movie starred Meryl Streep as Julia Child and Amy Adams as Powell. Powell was also presented with an honorary degree from Le Cordon Blue in Paris, the school that Julia Child attended in 1950. A special friend gave me a very old copy of Julia Child’s cookbook and I will always cherish it… but I won’t cook all 524 recipes.

We all remember the late Marilyn Monroe sparkly gown (designed just for the performance of “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” in 1962), that Kim Kardashian borrowed for the May Met Gala. Some people are unamused. Now…this Halloween, her daughter North dressed up like Michael Jackson from his 1988 music video for Smooth Criminal, along with his original white fedora which was purchased for North by her mom at a 2019 auction. Some thoughts are that the Jackson hat is too precious to be worn by a kid as a costume. Kardashian also bought North a velvet jacket Michael Jackson wore to Elizabeth Taylor’s 65th birthday party in 1997. Kardashian reportedly paid $65,625 for the item then had the jacket altered to accommodate her 9-year-old daughter’s coming growth spurts. Quit IT! I guess this gives new meaning to thrifting for your Halloween costume.

Speaking of Halloween, my new neighbor and her daughter, and granddaughters who just love Halloween, dressed up beautifully like Hocus Pocus ladies. It was so much fun. If there was one, they would receive the best neighbor award. We all agreed that in our neighborhood, the prize (if there actually was a prize) for the best children’s costume, would go to the cute girl dressed like a chicken, where they had to air up the head. But all the kids were cute, especially the little ones. A very fun evening. Even more fun than in the past, when I still sat at my sewing machine at the last minute, finishing a costume for one of my two kiddos. I like the fact they both do their own costumes now.

David DePape, 42-year-old Richmond man accused of attacking Paul Pelosi, husband of House speaker Nancy Pelosi, pleaded not guilty. He planned to break her kneecaps, but couldn’t find her so he used a hammer on her husband instead. I stand by my earlier words; our world is getting stupider by the moment.

In 1990, Sheila Keen (Warren) is alleged to have dressed up as a clown in orange wig, red nose, and white face paint, right before shooting her employer’s wife in the face. That day as Marlene (Warren) answered the front door of her upscale South Florida home, the Clown handed her carnations and balloons right before she shot her. Now, if you find it unusual that both ladies have the same last name, it’s because the clown married the dead woman’s husband a few years later. The clown has pleaded not guilty. Detectives said in 2017, advances in DNA technology combined with evidence gathered decades ago, showed Keen-Warren was the killer. Just as they were ready to go to trial last week, a 25-page ‘clown sighting file’ which has names, addresses, and phone numbers of 40 credible leads, was disclosed. The trial is delayed, but Keen-Warren will remain behind bars as she awaits a new date.

People accustomed to the hum of a passing electric car are in for a surprise when a new electric vehicle hits the streets. Dodge, famous for gas-powered muscle cars like the Charger and Challenger, says it plans to roll out the electric Charger Daytona in 2024, featuring exhaust pipes that make noise and a transmission that shifts gears. Of course, the whole point of an electric car is that it doesn’t have an exhaust system, so you will have to make vroom-vroom noises while waiting for the light to change. I wonder if they will also offer a squealing tire noise for an additional charge. I think Mattel and Hasbro make a more affordable model. 😊 Just kidding.

Starbucks announced a partnership with Delta Air Lines that will award 1 mile for every $1 spent at the coffee chain. Hmmm. Oscar winner Hillary Swank (48), and her husband Philip Schneider, are having twins. The movie Rust plans to restart filming since the settlement over the fatal set shooting.  Thank-you to Culligan Water for coming out and replacing our water filters. We love clean filtered water. Maury Povich just ended his show after 31 years on the air. Remember when his show was one of just a very few ridiculous shows on TV? Not anymore. 300,000 rainbow colored fentanyl pills were found inside a Bronx apartment building which makes it the largest fentanyl seizure in New York City history with a street value of about $9 million. Tropical storm LISA is expected to have hurricane category 2 conditions possible along with a life-threatening storm surge as it crosses the coast of Belize and southern portions of the Yucatan Peninsula. Have a great wet weekend, enjoy your extra hour, and be happy Lisa isn’t in south Texas.

PS – Just in case you don’t have anything else to worry about, astronomers have detected three asteroids previously undetected due to the glare and brightness of the sun, which are now in close proximity to Earth, two of which pose a potential threat as planet killers because of their size. One is almost a mile long, but NASA experts said not to worry for now, but they could possibly cross paths with Earth in the distant future. Sure.

What I Heard This Week 04-07-2022

What I Heard This Week April 6, 2022

This week, a particularly good, and funny friend, sent me a picture of what looked like a gun shop loaded with walls of firearms. Like the wall in Academy. Below where the guns hung, there was a bakery counter stocked full of fresh donuts, eclairs, puff pastry, cinnamon rolls and more… right next to a rolling cart stacked high with pastries that they hadn’t yet put out. Her note attached said, “My political views are whatever this is!” I can see where she’s coming from.

Elon Musk, a frequent Twitter critic, is now joining the platform on their Board of Directors. Hmmm. This announcement came one day after he acquired a 9.2% stake in the company, making him by far the largest shareholder. Musk has also been known to tweet misinformation, along with less than complimentary statements about journalists and other individuals; like comparing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Hitler, which was quickly deleted. Twitter’s stock jumped 27% Monday. Elon Musk’s net worth is about $300 billion, $100 billion over Jeff Bezos.

Tiger Woods announced that he will play in the Masters Tournament and believes he can win. He’s just worried about all the necessary walking.  A number of Republicans have criticized Mitt Romney because he is backing Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court.  GM and Honda are teaming up to build a $30,000 electric car. JetBlue has now offered to buy Spirit Airlines for $3.6 billion. Wait, hadn’t Frontier Airlines agreed to buy Spirit for $2.9 billion? Hmmm. Someone is having a bidding war.  A West Virginia angler landed a 51-pound Muskie (white filleted flesh compared to lobster when prepared with butter), setting a state record for the species. He called friends for assistance in taking photos and keeping the fish alive until it could be released back into the lake.  Flowering plants in Antarctica are growing at an unprecedented speed, a rare spectacle showing a tipping point of the climate crisis. Yep, we now have flowers where it used to be too cold.

On April 13th in NY, the Bonhams Space History will auction lunar dust collected by American astronaut Neil Armstrong from the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. Just think… man’s first steps on the Moon. The sale of this specimen marks the first time a part of the Apollo 11 contingency sample, which has been evaluated and verified, can be sold at auction. Still in the case from NASA, it is estimated to bring between $800,000 to $1,200,000.

A man named Simon who lives in Oklahoma, found a green tree frog in his boxed lettuce from Whole Foods. Because society seems to be looking for everything, and everybody that seems to ‘wrong them’ in the world, I was sure this story would end up with the guy throwing a fit and suing. No. This is an incredibly happy story. Simon said it was too cold outside on the night he found the little guy in his lettuce, so he put him back in the lettuce box, made him a bathtub with water in a Mason jar lid, and named him Tony. The next day Simon bought Tony worms to eat and upgraded him to a little orange habitat that stayed in the bathroom. Tony was happy. Simon was happy. Tony escaped a few times but was always found. At Christmas, he even had his own stocking. All along, Simon just wanted the best for Tony… release him or keep him? Then Simon got Tony a terrarium mansion, and knew the frog was going to stay with him. Oh, now I need to tell you the best part of the story. When Simon was 10, he was given a 50% chance of surviving leukemia. While he was sick in the hospital, his favorite companion in his hospital bed was a stuffed green tree frog. I saw the pictures. I am blubbering right now.

RECENT BIRTHDAYS: Singer Peggy Lennon of the Lennon Sisters is 80. I remember watching them on the Lawrence Welk Show at my Granny and Pawpaw’s house. Guitarist Steve Howe of Yes and Asia is 74. Bassist Mel Schacher of Grand Funk Railroad is 70. Singer-actor John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard is 61. Singer Julian Lennon is 58. Actor Robin Wright is 55. Actor Patricia Arquette is 53.

Actor Michael Learned of The Waltons is 82. Country singer Margo Smith is 79. Actor Dennis Quaid is 67. Actor Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City is 55. Actor Keshia Knight Pulliam of The Cosby Show is 42. Actor Kristen Stewart of Twilight is 31. Actor Elle Fanning of Because of Winn-Dixie is 23. Musician Lil Nas X is 22. Singer Jackie Evancho is 21. Actor Steven Seagal is 69.

Estelle Harris, 93, the actor known for playing George Costanza’s mother on Seinfeld, died at 93. Bobby Rydell, American singer, actor, and teen idol, died at 79. His songs included Wild One and Volare, and he appeared in Bye Bye Birdie in 1963.

The Dairy Bar Celebration, in recognition of its 70 years of doing business in LJ, was postponed in September due to Hurricane Nicholas. Well, Let’s try again. SATURDAY, APRIL 9 from 11:00-2:00 p.m. on the grounds of the LJ Historical Museum. Food, Music, and 1950’s Fun. Mary Harnden, daughter of long-time owners Dorothy and Slim Harnden, will present an oral history in the museum rotunda at 1:15. Period clothing encouraged. So, grab your bobby socks, poodle skirts, penny loafers and more, head over there to say thank-you, and help them celebrate. If you have never had a Dairy Bar Cheeseburger, then you are probably the only person in town that hasn’t. Good memories.

Sometimes I talk to myself, then we both laugh and laugh.

I have shared this with you before, but it spoke to me again, so here it is. Sometimes you get what you want. Other times, you get a lesson in patience, timing, alignment, empathy, compassion, faith, perseverance, resilience, humility, trust, meaning, awareness, resistance, purpose, clarity, grief, beauty, and life. Either way, you win.

Jon Batiste walked into the 2022 Grammy Awards with the most nominations (11) then walked away with the most wins, picking up five prizes. Yes, five, including Album of the Year, Best Music Video for his song Freedom; Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song for Cry; and Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for the animated film Soul which was a fabulous movie. Following him was Silk Sonic with four awards. I LOVE Jon Batiste, and I love Silk Sonic. It was a good night for music.

In California, a man found a 7-foot Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake coiled up back behind his couch cushion… in his home. Not his garage, shop, or back porch. The snake removal man says that this breed of snake is a rare find, adding, “You’d be luckier (likely) to find a Rolex sitting on the ground than a snake like this.” Hmmm. No one knows where it came from. Thank you, but I’ll take the Rolex.

We’ve been given a warning by science and a wake-up call by nature; it is up to us now to heed them.”
Bill McKibben

A 59-year-old Florida man was driving down a road in the middle of the night and hit an 11-foot alligator, which caused him to veer off the road, crash, and overturn into a ditch, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. An A380 superjumbo jet just completed a flight powered by sustainable aviation fuel or SAF, made mostly of used cooking oil and waste fats, and operating with a single Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine Ken Burns has a new two-part, four-hour PBS documentary about Benjamin Franklin.

There are now only five remaining rhino species worldwide, and all are threatened. Some sub-species have already vanished like the western black rhino of western Africa, which was declared extinct in 2013, due to poaching. The last male northern white rhino died in 2020.  They were poached for their horns, which are coveted ingredients in traditional Asian medicine. An extremely rare Sumatran rhino, the world’s smallest rhino, was born at a sanctuary in Indonesia recently. I saw her picture and she is definitely so ugly, she is cute.

We are being governed by a bunch of children,” says Illinois Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger. “By a bunch of people that are not serious about running the United States of America and truly don’t understand the threat that’s out there from Vladimir Putin, from China and from some of these actors in the world that want to destroy our place here.” He continued, “The world order is being challenged for the first time since World War II and they’re sitting around thinking today about how we can win our next election, what the newest outrage is, what’s the next thing we can do to get people angry and upset and get their money from them for our re-election.” I wonder if anyone is listening.

Reese Witherspoon’s production company has adapted the bestselling novel, “Where the Crawdads Sing” for the big screen due to be released July 15, 2022 and will feature a brand-new song by Taylor Swift. It was Amazon’s most sold fiction book for all of 2019.

Will you miss switching your clocks forward and backwards? In a surprise move, the Senate unanimously passed (wow, they agreed on something) legislation making daylight saving time, which began last month, permanent for the entire U.S. starting in 2023, after input from airlines and broadcasters. It is called the Sunshine Protection Act. The National Association of Convenience Stores opposes the change, telling Congress “We should not have kids going to school in the dark.” I can’t find whether the decision has been made whether to support daylight or standard time as the permanent choice. We will wait to see if Biden signs it.

The war doesn’t let us choose who survives and who stays in eternal silence.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

The war still rages in Ukraine, but now we are actually seeing and hearing the horrors that are so extremely hard for us to unsee. Civilians being blindfolded, hands bound, and shot in the head. Women raped in front of their children. Mass graves, children killed, all while Putin continues with lies and deception to his own country. Please keep them in your prayers.

May your week be filled with good thoughts, kind people and happy moments. Don’t forget… Art Car Parade April 9th. That always makes me happy.

What I Heard This Week 11-04-2021

What I Heard This Week November 3, 2021

On Halloween day, there were two black vultures sitting on a light pole at the entrance of our subdivision. Like they were props. Watching. Waiting. Very appropriate for the day. I took a picture.

New York City is now dealing with an unusual outbreak of a rare, sometimes fatal disease spread through rat urine, called leptospirosis. It is not known why there have been so many new cases this year, but warmer weather conditions fueled by climate change is cited as a possible factor. A group of rat hunters are doing their part to help catch the critters, along with their pet dogs. One gentleman has spent 30 years of Friday nights, responding to public complaints about the 2-million plus brown rats living in NYC. He said that his dogs instinctively kill the rats but never get sick because they know to avoid the diseased rats. See, things could be worse in Texas. My son says that the rats are all over Boston, too. Hmmm.

The trouble with being in the rat race is that even if you win, you’re still a rat. Lily Tomlin

A fast-food customer was killed at the drive-thru window of a McDonald’s in what police called a freak accident. The customer opened his door to get something he had dropped from his window while paying. As he opened the door and leaned out, the car rolled forward hitting part of the restaurant, which pinned him between the door and the frame. Efforts were made by first responders to revive the man, but he died on the scene. In 2012, a woman suffered serious injuries in the same such situation at another McDonald’s when she dropped money, reached down to pick it up as her foot slipped off the brake, and the car rolled forward. In 2018, a motorist opened a door at a Jack In The Box drive-thru to get his food. He tried to back up, but accelerated while doing so, hit a tree, and was pinned between the car and tree. I know you are thinking to yourself, fast food kills, so I’m not even going to mention it.

To me, fast food is when a cheetah eats an antelope. George Carlin

Since 1963, we have all been wondering what is inside those memorizing Astro Lamps aka Lava Lamps, designed by Edward Craven Walker. It is actually wax that is heated, then floats and rises to the top of the lamp, then as it cools it falls back down. There has been so little change in the way that the lamp is made that you can still buy spare parts for a lamp that was made in the 60’s. At its peak of popularity in the 90’s, they were selling over 800,000 lamps a year. The precise mix of chemicals used in commercial lava lamps remains a trade secret, but it is said to be a blend of paraffin and perchloroethylene (PERC, aka dry-cleaning fluid, or brake part cleaner). The base liquid is supposed to be mostly a mixture of water, dye and chemicals that prevent the formation of fungus. Now you know.

A husband is someone who after taking out trash, gives the impression he just cleaned the whole house.

Josh Duggar, 33, of the 19 Kids and Counting show, was charged with receiving and possessing more than 200 images of child sex abuse material, involving minor children from about 18 months of age to 12 years. He said he is not guilty. His wife, Anna, very pregnant with their seventh child, says she believes he is innocent. He has been granted unlimited contact with his children (as long as his wife is present) but is not allowed to see any other minor children, including his many nieces and nephews. Allegedly he admitted he molested five underage girls as a teen, but he could not be criminally charged because of statute of limitations had run out (even though he had confessed.). Two of his own sisters have come forward as two of his victims. If convicted (come on, of course he should be convicted) he could face a possible sentence of 40 years. Hmmm. NOT LONG ENOUGH. As a mother, I know exactly what I think should happen to him. He would be screaming like a girl. Meanwhile back at home, his dad Bob Duggar will be running for Arkansas State Senate.

I believe more in the scissors than I do the pencil. Truman Capote

RECENT BIRTHDAYS: Actor Barry Newman is 83. Singer Johnny Rivers is 79. Mountain of Love. Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is 78. Her fourth studio LP, the classic Blue Album was ranked No. 3 of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, by Rolling Stone Magazine. Actor Christopher Knight of The Brady Bunch is 64. Singer Bonnie Bramlett is 77. Delaney & Bonnie. Singer Bonnie Raitt is 72. Former Entertainment Tonight host Mary Hart is 71. Former Playboy CEO Christie Hefner is 69. Singer-songwriter Rickie Lee Jones is 67. Chuck E.’s in Love. Singer-actor Leif Garrett is 60. Actor Lou Ferrigno of The Incredible Hulk is 70. Singer Nick Lachey of 98 Degrees is 48. Blues singer Bobby Rush is 87. Country singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard is 75. Actor Whoopi Goldberg is 66. Guitarist Vince Martell of Vanilla Fudge is 76.

Lyricist Tim Rice is 77. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast. Actor Mackenzie Phillips of One Day at a Time is 62. Actor Mackenzie Foy of Twilight is 21. Renesmee. Singer-keyboardist Paul Cowsill of The Cowsills is 70. The Rain, The Park and Other Things. Guitarist Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult is 74. Actor Jimmy Hawkins is 80. He played Jimmy Stewart & Donna Reed’s son, Tommy Bailey, in the Frank Capra film classic … It’s A Wonderful Life.

The oldest surviving former Miss America, Jo-Carroll Dennison, died at 97. With a talent performance of Deep in the Heart of Texas, she captured the crown in 1942, after a banker stopped her on the street in Tyler, Texas and asked her to represent his bank in the town beauty pageant. She was one of the first pageant winners to object to wearing a swimsuit as she toured in the year after her victory.

In Texas, a mother and her 20-month-old baby boy were in a motel room when someone knocked. Three women overpowered the mother and took the child. The mother chased after them and was able to physically rip the front license plate from their vehicle before they drove away. Police used this information along with surveillance video, and the child was eventually returned to his mother safely. Ahh. The strength of a mother’s love can literally peel license plates right off cars.

Taco Bell is testing a monthly taco subscription service called Taco Lover’s Pass, where you can get one taco per day, for a month. More information to come, but great idea. Chipotle is adding smoked brisket to the menu. YUM. McDonald’s will be adding a new cheeseburger called The McPlant that is vegan. The burger is made with Beyond Meat which includes ingredients like yellow peas, coconut, potato, and beetroot juice. It is topped with vegan cheese and vegan sandwich sauce. For all my vegetarian friends. In an effort to protect our planet, McDonald’s is giving Happy Meals toys an environmentally friendly makeover, phasing out plastic toys, and if it works (of course it will work if they really want it to work), resulting in a 90% reduction in virgin plastics in favor of customizable crafts and build-your-own construction projects, paper-based trading cards, board games and lots of fun in each Happy Meal. I say get rid of anything that is not compostable, not biodegradable, that way it returns to the Earth.

OK, listen up. I am going to give you plenty of time to get your stuff together. Texas Gulf Bank is hosting Shred Day at the LJ Rec Center parking lot on Saturday Dec. 4th from 8 to 11:30. I got there last time and the truck was already full, so get your papers gathered up now so you are ready when the time comes. Mark it on your calendar right now so you will not forget. You know you have stuff that needs shredding.

What does it tell you when you can buy a $123,000 battery-powered Aston Martin DB5. It is the same car James Bond drives. Oh, but wait, there is more to this story. It just so happens this is the child-size version. Yes, for children. The Aston Martin DB5 Junior is a smaller version of the one in the movies, including little toy machine guns that come out of the front as the headlights retract, and a smokescreen device that pumps dark smoke through tiny little exhaust pipes. Isn’t this sweet? And your name doesn’t even have to be Kardashian. Hmmm. It can get up to speeds of 45 to 50 mph. The Aston Martin spokesperson says, “We’d encourage parents to ensure their kids wear a helmet and that kids are supervised while driving.” Oh, really? Honestly, don’t you remember how good it felt to be going downhill on your bike with your feet hanging off the pedals and your hair flying in the wind? I vote for bicycles for Christmas, like in the old days. Walmart has a bunch in stock right now.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has decided on a formal definition of Long COVID, defining it as a “post-COVID condition.” The WHO said: “Common symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath, cognitive dysfunction but also others… which generally have an impact on everyday functioning. Symptoms may be new-onset, following initial recovery from an acute Covid-19 episode, or persist from the initial illness. Symptoms may also fluctuate or relapse over time.”

First of all, you don’t get the vaccine for yourself, you get it for other people,” NBA legend Charles Barkley said. “I got vaccinated. I can’t wait to get the booster. You don’t get vaccinated just for yourself. Like [NBA Commissioner] Adam [Silver] said, you get vaccinated for your family first, you get vaccinated for your teammates second.” “I think everybody should get vaccinated,” Barkley added, noting he was “proud of the Nets for putting their foot down and for saying, ‘No, we’re not going to deal with this half on, half off’” and allow Kyrie Irving just to play on the road. Note: Irving will still receive half of his $35 million salary as he sits out the season. Yep. $17 million to sit at home.

Even if we disagree about everything, we can still be kind to each other.

Volkswagen just unveiled a tiny, boxy electric SUV called “ID. Life,”  a cute concept vehicle priced for first time car buyers that should cost around $24,000, when it gets here. VW says the car is made from several different recycled and renewable materials. Wood chips were used as a coloring agent in the car’s paint, and the lightweight removable roof is made from recycled bottles. Having kids basically feels like waking up on the first morning of daylight saving time every day for 18 years.

Fall Back! Daylight Saving Time is November 7th. No “s” at the end of saving. That means it will start getting dark right after you eat lunch. It just seems so silly for us to continue doing this. In 2020, American Academy of Sleep Medicine said the U.S. should eliminate daylight saving time in favor of a year-round standard time. The Royal Family has a resident clock master who must turn back 1,500 clocks. Think of the money they could save. Let’s repeal and replace Daylight Saving Time. Actually, I thought it happened last week-end, so on Sunday morning I got ready to re-set the clock in the kitchen after looking at the correct time on my cellphone. Well, that was weird. I convinced myself that the electricity had gone out during the night because I heard my neighbor’s generator going, or perhaps I just convinced myself that I heard it. Anyway, I believed what I told myself, and went on with my day. I worked outside, pulling weeds, burning sticks and never gave it another thought. BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING AT MY CELLPHONE which was correct. The next morning the cats woke me up an hour early for food. Dang. They had set their clocks forward. 😊 Have a great weekend and thanks again for reading and shopping with us. We appreciate you so much! Former US astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, recently remarried for the fourth time, which also happened to be on the occasion of his 93rd birthday. This time it was to Dr. Anca Faur, his 63-year-old, long-time companion (who looks like she wants to be 27), has a PhD in chemical engineering, and is now the executive vice president of Aldrin’s company, Buzz Aldrin Ventures.  He was first married to Joan Ann Archer in 1954 until divorcing in 1974. The next year he married Beverly Van Zile; they divorced after three years. His third marriage was to Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988 on Valentine's Day, divorcing 23 years later. Looks like he hasn’t given up on ‘love’ quite yet. He has sued two of his children and his former business manager claiming they stole money from him and are slandering his legacy, and that they also undermined his "personal romantic relationships" by forbidding him from getting married. His children say he is also spending money at an alarming rate. Sounds like those children are out of luck. There is a new sheriff in town and her name is MRS. Aldrin. ☹ Notes: Aldrin is also a strong advocate for human exploration of Mars. In 2002, he escaped assault charges after punching a man who demanded he swear on a Bible that the Moon landing was not staged. Good for him. He also said, “Tang sucks. “
