What I Heard This Week 07-28-2022

What I Heard This Week July 27, 2022

There’s no way you are walking around like this!”  screamed the young man trying a period cramp simulator for the first time. Period cramps are the price you pay for being a woman and the right to bear children if you so choose, at least that is what I always told my daughter. (The Supreme Court may have changed that a tad recently.) Most women I know have gone to bed with a heating pad just to help the pain be a little more bearable. Add Midol, Tylenol, Advil, Motrin and/or exercise, along with a prayer that it will pass quickly. Now for curious men, there is a period cramp stimulator, which allows guys to experience the same discomfort, so they can sympathize a little. I bet guys will be lining up to try it out. lol. I watched a video showing four men and four women hooked up to the machine at various times. All the guys ended up either on their knees, on the floor, or in a sitting down position on the sofa. The big question on the table now, do they make a childbirth or menopause simulator? I still have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

Last week I told you about the woman who woke from a two-year coma after being beaten in the head, immediately naming her brother as her attacker, can rest easy now. Her brother, a very unhealthy man, was only in custody for seven days when he died. Crazy story.

Let’s face it, there are people in our lives that we all just put up with, and then there is Dave Mayberry. I know my face lights up when I talk to him, or his lovely wife, Kay. They are simply people that make you happy while encouraging laughter and smiles. Well, Dave called me last week to tell me that he has accepted the position of Director of Business Development at First National Bank LJ, and to let me know that the little plant I sent to him when he went to work at The Hester Group, was moving with him. I hated to tell him that he definitely deserved a new plant after all these years, but I’m sure I’ll find something new to take when I visit. First National Bank is one lucky company, and smart, too. PS. This is not a paid advertisement 😊 simply a reminder for you to run by and say hello to Dave. If he’s not already your friend, then you need to get by there quickly and introduce yourself. What was it that John Wayne said, “Slap some bacon on a biscuit and let’s go! We’re burnin’ daylight!”  Congratulations, Dave. We all love you!

Recently, as I opened a bottle of wine, I wondered about recycling the tin, aluminum, or polyethylene foil capsule over the cork. (It used to be lead, but that was phased out by law in 1996.) It’s always been there as a barrier to oxygen, insects and rodents that love to eat cork, and well as decoration. According to Earth911.com, you can leave on the foil, or put it in with your metal recycling. Just remember to remove all liquids from the bottles. No problem. 😊 FYI… some wineries are now eliminating the capsule and/or the cork.

Cork comes from the bark of the Cork Oak tree. It is bark that can take 25 to 50 years to get to the point where it is usable for wine bottles, but then each tree can only be harvested every nine years so as to not do permanent damage to the inner bark of the tree.

Chris Evans, aka Captain America, plans to produce and play Gene Kelly in a new movie based on Evans’ original idea about a boy working in Hollywood in the 1950’s that finds an imaginary friend in Kelly. A hand-painted mandolin owned by Janis Joplin that she had gifted to Jimi Hendrix, recently sold at auction for $281,250, after 29 bidders fought for the winning bid. The two influential musicians were friends, but were never able to record music together, since they both died at the young age of 27. Martha Stewart is opening her first restaurant, the Bedford by Martha Stewart, inspired by her country home in Bedford, NY, but it will be at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.

Child werewolf Eddie Munster. Keyboardist Garth Hudson of The Band is 85.

Paul Sorvino, the coldhearted mobster Paulie Cicero in GoodFellas died at 83. He trained as an opera singer, but asthma made him focus more on acting. Tony Dow, best known as the big brother Wally in Leave It to Beaver, is very sick and on hospice care, but still alive. His son says he has a fighting heart.

Former sports star Bo Jackson covered all funeral expenses for the families of the victims of the Uvalde school massacre so they would have one less thing to worry about as they grieved. Jackson flew in and presented a check for $170,000. NICE.

Back in 2008 during a campaign stop, then presidential candidate Barack Obama said this; “It is wonderful to be back in Oregon. Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states.” He was criticized for his mistake. Especially Republicans. Then last week Herschel Walker (American former football running back who played in the NFL for 12 seasons and is the Republican nominee in the 2022 US Senate election in Georgia) said, “If you don’t believe in the country, leave and go somewhere else. If it’s the worst state, why are you here? Why don’t you leave? Go to another – there’s, what, 51 more other states that you can go to?” Actually, there are 50 states in the United States, for those of you that don’t remember, and you really should remember. It is pretty basic information. Such a nice round number. I really can understand forgetfulness when associated with fatigue, and lack of sleep on a campaign trail, because I think both men knew the answer. But… maybe Walker has a few other faux pas on his scoreboard. He just recently acknowledged he has three children with women he was not married to, in addition to his son by his former wife, and he has not served in law enforcement as he previously claimed. Then he responded to the Uvalde school shootings with, “Cain killed Abel” and followed with a suggestion of, “What about getting a department that can look at young men that’s looking at women that looking at social media.”  Walker also did not graduate from the University of Georgia in the top 1% of his class, in fact he did not graduate from there at all, and he was not valedictorian of his high school class.

Velveeta processed cheese brand teamed with Nails.INC to launch a set of nail stickers and two limited-edition cheese-scented colors called La Dolce Velveeta yellow and Finger Food red. It is supposed to make your nails look as smooth as Velveeta feels.

If that’s not enough, Velveeta now has come up with a Veltini…  the vodka is infused with Velveeta, the rim of the martini glass is dripping with Velveeta, and each olive is stuffed with a cheese cube accompanied on the toothpick by cheesy Velveeta shells. I can’t tell you personally if it’s good or not, but if I get the opportunity to try it, I will. Don’t knock it, ‘til we try it.  The press release says, “a decadent and indulgent summer sip made for pleasure-seekers.”

A 22-year-old British student at Oxford died in Greece, after being dismembered by the blades of a helicopter that he had just exited. He was being led away from the helicopter when he quickly turned and walked back, but he was talking on his cellphone and could not hear onlookers shouting at him to stop. He was struck in the head by the high-speed blades and killed instantly. Put down your phone!

La Nina, the natural but overwhelming weather event linked to drought, very little rain, agricultural losses, and wildfires in the western US, along with hurricanes in the Atlantic, is acting a little weird. It doesn’t know it is time to leave and give us a break. The current La Nina formed in the summer of 2020, strengthened in the winter, rested a tiny bit for a couple of months, and then it was back. Typically, second year La Nina’s tend to be weaker, but it set a record intensity that spring, according to the sea surface temperatures. My sister and I drove to Hot Springs last week for my uncle’s funeral and it was so hard to watch the cattle fight for the scrawniest bit of shade, right next to totally dry mud holes that are begging for rain to fill them up. I know some cattle were dead or dying, because there were buzzards right there sharing the shade with them.

A chess-playing robot broke the finger of a 7-year-old boy at a Moscow chess competition. I watched the video, and it looked like the robot just placed the chess piece right on top of his finger, not turning loose, and the truth is a robot does NOT understand hearing ouch!! no matter how loud you say it. Immediately, several men came to the child’s aid. The injured boy returned to the tournament the next day in a cast. The robot looked like something out of Star Wars.

The WHO (World Health Organization) has now declared monkeypox an international public health emergency, as infections are increasing quickly. That is the organization’s loudest alarm bell. Contrary to what you think you may have heard from your neighbor, friend, or Facebook, which made you feel totally safe about this disease, it is primarily spread through CLOSE PERSON-TO-PERSON CONTACT. At this point, scientists know that the virus can pass from direct contact with sores (augh, have you seen the pictures?!?) along with bodily fluids and respiratory droplets from infected people. Male or female… the virus does not care or even know the difference, but scientists are now trying to find out whether the rare disease is spreading in other ways, since current cases don’t all look like traditional monkeypox. We are a pandemic-weary world. UPDATE: This morning the news title said, “Monkeypox is Spreading Faster than the Data about it, Hindering Mitigation Efforts,” plus it’s now found in Brazoria County.

An unvaccinated young adult from NY has contracted the first US case of polio in nearly a decade. The person developed paralysis about a month ago and had not traveled outside the country recently. They think that the person had a vaccine-derived strain of the virus, possibly from someone who received a live vaccine, which is available in other countries, but not the US.

Las Vegas is limiting the size of their swimming pools now, capping dimensions to about the size of a three-car garage. Now let me see if I have this right, Lake Mead is drying up so they are worried about whether they will have drinking water or not, and you can still build a pool bigger than many homes. Have a great week. Be sure to read the final classified of the paper this week. I’m praying you are a good dancer. 😊 LISA

What I Heard This Week 07-21-2022

What I Heard This Week July 20, 2022

In June of 2020, Wanda Palmer was attacked, hacked at, and left in a coma for dead. She had massive head trauma consistent with a machete or hatchet type injury. Investigators interviewed her brother, considered him a suspect, but he denied any involvement and they didn’t have enough evidence against him. Two years later on June 27, 2022, the woman started coming out of her coma saying single words, so her caseworker called the police. On July 12, she identified her brother as her attacker, he was arrested, and charged with attempted murder, as well as malicious wounding. Hmmm. What goes around, comes around… sometimes it just takes a while.

Cooking Hint: After cooking your pasta, reduce the cooking water to concentrate the starch, then freeze what is left into ice trays. The starchy ice is perfect for adding body to sauces and soups. – Cook’s Illustrated

Disney has agreed to pay a woman $100,000 after she said, she was bitten multiple times by bedbugs while staying at the Disneyland Hotel in 2018, causing her to suffer emotional stressand anxiety from the bites which caused severe rashes over her body and led to her losing clothing and other personal items. The lawsuit alleged Disney failed to maintain its rooms in a “decent, safe and habitable condition.” Disney says bedbugs “don’t discriminate” and can be found in any hotel of any quality across the globe. Disney says that they reached a settlement in an effort to avoid the cost of litigation. How in the heck did she lose her clothing and other personal items? That sounds like alcohol, not bedbugs.

If you’re injured in New Zealand, regardless of cause or blame, the ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) scheme entitles you to: Free medical care. Payment of a proportion of your salary, while you recover. Payment of compensation, if appropriate. The ACC scheme replaces the right to sue for damages. In New Zealand you cannot sue someone for causing you injury. Hmmm.

Now, a father in Illinois is upset that the Raging Rivers Waterpark turned away his 13-year-old daughter from their newest ride called the Mississippi Monster, because she weighed five pounds over the 200 lb. weight limit, which was posted at the beginning of the ride, along with a scale, just in case you don’t have a clue how much you weigh. The dad said, while it was disappointing for his daughter to not be able to get on the new ride, it was worse to endure the “public humiliation of being asked to step on a scale,” adding, “then further than that, being told that you’re overweight.” Hmmm. Remember the 340 lb. 14-year-old, thrown from a ride in Orlando that had a weight limit of 287 lbs. He fell 400 ft. to his death.

It’s so dry outside, the Baptists are sprinkling, and the Catholics are using a damp cloth.

The 2022 Great Texas Mosquito Festival is July 28, 29 & 30 at Clute Municipal Park, sponsored in part by Del Papa Distributing Co. and Karbach Brewing. Entertainment by Gabe Garcia, Creed Fisher, Dos Borrachos, Elida Reyna Y Avante, Duelo, Tilluride, and Spazmatics, BBQ cookoff, carnival, and vendors.

Paul Rudd, who in my book will always be the sexiest man alive whether he is on the front of People Magazine or not, found out that a 12-year-old boy was being bullied.  The real-life Marvel onscreen superhero arranged a FaceTime chat with the young man. Then he followed-up with a personal letter saying, “It’s important to remember that even when life gets tough, that things get better. There are so many people that love you and think you are the coolest kid there is – me being one of them!”  He sent a signed Ant-Man helmet, then several of the older students at his school started asking for selfies with the young boy and signing his yearbook. Be kind to everyone…

RECENT BIRTHDAYS: Comedian Ruth Buzzi is 86. Frumpy little old hair-netted spinster lady on Laugh-In named Gladys Ormphby that beat people with her handbag. “No, it didn’t hurt,” she revealed. “It looked vicious, but it was just a felt purse lined and filled with old pantyhose and cotton. I was able to swing it with all my might and it still wouldn’t hurt anyone, although it looked great and sounded great with a ‘thud’ when it landed. She lives on a 629-acre ranch close to Dallas now, but recently suffered a series of strokes that have left her bedridden and incapacitated. She has sure given us lots of laughs.

Actor John Aniston of Days of Our Lives is 89. Actor Mark Goddard of Lost in Space is 86. Actor Lynda Carter is 71. Country singer Pam Tillis is 65. Actor-singer Kristin Chenoweth is 54. Singer Patti Scialfa of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band is 69. Country singer Martina McBride is 56. Blues guitarist Buddy Guy is 86. Singer Paul Anka is 81. Actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger is 75. Actor Lisa Kudrow of Friends is 59.

Ivana Trump, first wife of Donald Trump, until replaced by Marla Maples, died at 73 after suffering blunt impact injuries of the torso, after falling down stairs in her home.

Mickey Rooney Jr., the oldest of Micky Rooney’s children, died at 77. Rooney Jr. was an original Mouseketeer who appeared on the Mickey Mouse Club in 1955 along with his brother Tim. Longtime friend Paul Petersen (Jeff on The Donna Reed Show) said, ”Mickey Junior was tall and talented. He could sing, dance and act … and get in trouble,” he joked of the fact that the three of them were let go from the show after just a few episodes. “We three were fired for Conduct Unbecoming a Mouse!”

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck aka Bennifer, married in a tunnel of love drive-thru chapel in Las Vegas, at twelve thirty in the morning. She was in a dress from an old movie, had done her own makeup, BUT later changed into a lacy gown featuring a corset bodice and fishtail train for the ceremony. The groom chose a white tuxedo that he found hanging in his closet, which he changed into in the men’s bathroom before the ceremony. Hmmm. Isn’t it just swell to have such great celebrities to look up to!

I’m a social vegan, I avoid “meet”.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz says that they plan to close 16 stores because of security and personal safety issues. Evidently, this is just the beginning and there will be many more closings because of crime, homelessness and drug use in the bathrooms. I gave my copy of his book, Pour Your Heart into It: How Starbucks Built a Company One Cup at a Time, to someone. I don’t remember who that was, but if you are finished reading it, please return.

A transgender inmate was transferred out of an only women’s prison in New Jersey after impregnating two female inmates earlier this year, following consensual sexual relationships. Just one year ago, the state reached a settlement with the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey to house transgender inmates according to their gender identity, instead of their sex assigned at birth.

Sometimes a drink(s) after work, is not such a good idea. A city worker left his office, stopped off at a restaurant and had a few too many alcoholic drinks, then fell asleep on the street. When he woke up, someone had stolen his bag, which contained a flash drive with the personal details of every individual in his city. Details like names, birth dates, and addresses of 465,177 people, the city’s entire population. The flash drive also contained sensitive information including tax details, bank account names and numbers, and information on households receiving public assistance such as childcare payments. The employee had been authorized to access the data, but he had not been given permission to transfer it onto a separate electronic device and leave with it.

A 53-year-old Oklahoma man confessed to killing a man that he went catfish noodling with, because he was afraid the man intended to feed him to Sasquatch/Bigfoot. Hmmm. You’ve got to be careful who you take with you when you go catfish noodling.

Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” was the first movie to earn $100 million at the box office. Spielberg was the second director, because the first director was fired when they found out he didn’t know the difference between a whale and a shark. It cost $750,000 to make three mechanical sharks, each with different functions. Spielberg named them all Bruce, after his lawyer. The line, “you’re gonna need a bigger boat,” was ad-libbed by Roy Scheider/police chief Brody. Co-stars, Richard Dreyfuss (oceanographer Matt Hooper) and Robert Shaw (Captain Quint), couldn’t stand each other in real life, which resulted in some believable tension between the two.

When I was little, I bit my fingernails down to the quick. My dad would take hot sauce and put it on my fingernails to remind me not to put fingers in my mouth. It wasn’t bad until I rubbed my eyes. I never thought much about it until I read a story this week about the Hoover First United Methodist Church day school that used hot sauce as punishment for years, if not decades,” to punish children two years old and younger. Hot sauce, and apple cider vinegar. It all started with taco night at one home, where both a 4-year-old and 5-year-old both of their parents that the hot sauce on the table was “what they give the babies at school.”  The part-time pastor said the practice has stopped and will never be done again. I would hope NOT. The daycare was not even licensed with the state.

Good-looking country and “Ameripolitan” singer Dale Watson, is looking for his guitar after it was stolen from the back of his black van at a Houston restaurant last week. They also took fan merch, personal stuff, and lots of money. He got his van back, but not the coin-encrusted guitar that he has owned for almost 30 years. If you like vintage country sound, try listening to The Dumb Song.

Dallas ISD, the second largest school district in the state, will require students to use clear or mesh backpacks. Is that just so people will be satisfied that something is being done, because I don’t see that as a fix. The extraordinary heat wave in Europe is showing what is now possible already with climate change, and more important, what lies ahead. A speedboat carrying more than 800 pounds of cocaine, worth more than $13 million on the illegal market was seized off the coast of Columbia, but not before they dumped several bricks of the drug into the ocean. Bass Pro Shop is changing their Redhead brand Lifetime Guarantee All-Purpose Sock policy. One man has been exchanging his socks for years, so he is filing a lawsuit against the company.  Speaking of redheads, Showcase Cinemas in the UK where temperatures have soared to dangerous levels, is offering free admission to redheads to enjoy a movie and cold air-conditioning. Redheads are often more vulnerable than most to the sun’s rays. The pentagon now reports over 400 UFO encounters. The title of the news article was COVID is Getting Stronger, and We Are Growing More Complacent, as new coronavirus variants and subvariants spread. Research found that people given caffeine before shopping, in the range of 25 mg. to 200 mg., spent significantly more money and bought a higher number of items. So do NOT drink coffee before your weekly trip to the grocery store. In honor of Shark Week, you can pick up a blue coconut slush at Sonic with strawberries on top, along with gummy sharks. It’s cute.

What I Heard This Week 11-11-2021

What I Heard This Week November 10, 2021

When I came to work on Friday, I noticed a bunch of leaves cluttered around the front office door, so I put Teller inside and grabbed my broom. I swept in the direction that the wind was blowing, then about the time I got all the leaves swept up, the wind would change direction, blow them right back at me, into my shoes, and clinging to my hair. There is a love/hate relationship with leaves, but you must appreciate and respect them because leaves are so good for our world, providing food for the worms, compost, along with protection and natural fertilizer for our lawns and gardens. The wind is our true problem. 😊 So, as I swept, I happened to look down into the pots that I have on my front porch. Someone had gifted me with quite a few dirty paper plates and bowls with what looked like remains of spinach dip, candy wrappers, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, and cigarette butts… nine of them to be exact. I have benches out front meant to encourage people to grab a Source Weekly and stay for a while, but I never intended for that area to be the garbage collection location that it seems to be becoming. Since our little downtown has more established restaurants and bars, other businesses along with me, tend to pick up several beer bottles, cans, and trash, on most mornings. I do not expect putting these words on paper will make a difference, but it makes me feel better, so thanks for listening. Oh, did I mention the wads of chewing gum on the concrete out front. That was such a nice touch and so easy to scrape up, too. If every single day, EVERYONE picked up one piece of litter and said one kind thing to each person, our world would have to be a better place. Now, I am off to clean the toilets, sinks, floors, and kitchen here at the office, because it also puts me in such a good mindset.

OK, I admit that I am pretty whiny this week. Yesterday, I saw three different vehicles at three different intersections, all run red lights. That was just between my house and the office, which takes only eight minutes total travel time… and I actually stop for all the red lights. One SUV had a bunch of kids in the car. Little kids. Are you in such a hurry that you are willing to sacrifice yourself, your children, and the person that is trying to continue their journey and cross the intersection because their light has actually turned green? In most languages, green means you have approval to move ahead and proceed with your project or task at hand. Like driving to your intended destination. Unless, of course, you are in Japan where their green lights are actually blue. Slow down and enjoy this noticeably short life that we have.

As a 30-year-old father, Benjamin Franklin lost his son to smallpox on November 21, 1736. Franklin later wrote this about this personal tragedy. “In 1736 I lost one of my sons, a fine boy of four years old, by the small-pox, taken in the common way. I long regretted bitterly, and still regret that I had not given it to him by inoculation. This I mention for the sake of parents who omit that operation, on the supposition that they should never forgive themselves if a child died under it, my example showing that the regret may be the same either way and that, therefore, the safer should be chosen.” I am telling you this just in case you need some sobering advice about your own children and the Covid vaccine. Hesitancy about medical interventions to resist infectious disease is nothing new in the United States and can be traced back as far as the nation’s earliest days. Vaccinations were not available yet, so physicians offered inoculations, a dangerous procedure in which doctors filled a deep incision in the arm with pus from a smallpox patient. Those that survived were immune, but then there were 15% to 20% that got active smallpox and died. We have come a long way and have MUCH better odds.

This great story was found on This Day in History: Happy 70th Birthday to Lou Ferrigno, the body builder who became a household name for starring in The Incredible Hulk television series in the 1970s and 1980s. But the two-time Mr. Universe and fitness icon always had one weakness – his hearing. After ear infections as a toddler left him with major hearing loss, Ferrigno spent years wearing bulky hearing aids. Along with a speech impediment, he was often bullied by other children, and he began reading Hulk and Spider-Man comic books and dreamed of being strong enough to defend himself. He started weight training at age 13 using a broomstick and pails filled with cement because he couldn’t afford to buy weights. But, Ferrigno says his hearing loss gave him a determination that served him well. “I think that if I wasn’t hard of hearing I wouldn’t be where I am now… It gave me a certain strength of character.” Last year, at 69, he underwent cochlear implant surgery, and the results brought the still-muscular man to tears.

A New Zealand couple dug up a potato the size of a small animal from their backyard. They say it weighs 17-pounds and they have applied for recognition from Guinness World Records. They have named the potato Doug because they dug it up. Doug is not very pretty but would sure make plenty of potato salad.

Aaron Rodgers was asked a direct question back in August about whether he was or was not vaccinated. He replied, “Yeah, I’ve been immunized. There’s a lot of conversation around it, around the league, and a lot of guys who have made statements and not made statements, owners who have made statements. There’s guys on the team that haven’t been vaccinated. I think it’s a personal decision. I’m not going to judge those guys. He added, “It’s an interesting issue that I think we’re going to see played out the entire season.” Why didn’t he just say that he was not vaccinated? Why pretend to your teammates and friends? Right now, he has a $134-million contract with Green Bay including all sorts of monetary extras, so the fine of $14,650 is nothing but a drop in the bucket. But go on the field, locker room, fly with fellow players and staff, all the time putting their grandmas and families in harm’s way. Over the weekend, he was roasted by Saturday Night Live, portrayed in a skit by Pete Davidson. On the show’s opening, SNL’s version of Rodgers appears on Fox News defending his unvaccinated status. “It’s my body and my COVID,” Davidson/Rodgers said. “I can give it to whoever I want.” Such a reckless waste of a celebrated football superstar role model.

Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France before the French Revolution was guillotined in Paris at age 37, in 1793. Two diamond bracelets once belonging to her, “imbued with her glamour, glory and drama,” sold for more than $8 million this week. The bracelets were commissioned in 1776 and made of 112 old-cut diamonds. And they are gorgeous.

Tyson, the meatpacking giant, was criticized for failing to do enough to protect their workers from Covid-19 last year. All together 151 employees have died of Covid. So, in August, they announced that all of its 120,000 workers would need to be vaccinated or lose their jobs. Some workers were angry at first, but some are now saying that they are relieved that Tyson made the decision for them and now feel selfish for the resistance. That is an interesting way to look at it. They are at 96% now.

Life is like a ten-speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use. Charles M. Schulz

Kristen Stewart is now engaged, and she said that it was her dream to have the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives star, Guy Fieri, to preside at her wedding. The spikey-headed man gave an enthusiastic yes! Bet the food at the reception will be good. Have you seen the new Kia logo? I was in traffic last week and saw it on a car. It took me a second to figure out what it was, but it looks good.

Cardiac arrest simply means the heart stops beating. When the lungs are squeezed like they were in the crowds at the Travis Scott concert, oxygen levels drop very quickly, the person loses consciousness, and the heart is not able to function like it should. Underlying conditions like asthma can make the situation more dangerous. Warning: When the gates opened that evening, there was a brief stampede of people trying to get into the sold-out venue. Warning: At previous concerts in 2015 and 2017, Travis Scott had pleaded guilty to encouraging fans to bypass security, rush stages, vault security barricades, and participate in violence. People were hurt at these concerts. This week, fans arrived unruly and aggressive, and eight concertgoers died. Travis Scott responded, “be safe rage hard.” (I wonder if he was grabbing his crotch while he said that.) One nine-year old was riding on his dad’s shoulders through the crowd, when the dad passed out. It is believed that the boy was then trampled, is now on a ventilator in a medically induced coma. Why would anyone bring a child to a concert where people encourage other people to break the rules? On Saturday afternoon, I was in line at Chipotle in Pearland when the woman in front of me asked her daughter if she had heard about what happened the night before, and how tragic it was. The high-schooler responded with, “But the people that go to his concerts are crazy!”  Out of the mouth of babes. The young and innocent are often unexpectedly wiser than the adults that are supposed to take care of them. They are saying that there was not enough security… good grief, there were 528 HPD Police and 750 Live Nation security personnel there, along with 50,000 fans. That should be plenty for a group of well-behaved individuals, but probably not enough for this group.

Two women with their husbands went to a fertility clinic and underwent IVF to conceive. Each of the women went home pregnant and nine months later gave birth just a week apart… but not to their own babies. The clinic had switched embryos, so each woman gave birth to the other one’s baby. It was pretty obvious to the couple from birth that the child might not belong to them, but months went by before testing was done that determined they did actually have the wrong children. I cannot even imagine… bonding with your newborn, then having to trade it in for your own baby.

This morning I happened to see that People Magazine announced their 2021 Sexiest Man Alive. I immediately sent the article to my daughter who agrees, it is about time. 52-year-old Paul Rudd has it all. He is cute, sweet, humble, a great actor, and he’s hoping the new title will grant him an invitation to “those sexy dinners” with George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Michael B Jordan – all recent winners. “I figure I’ll be on a lot more yachts,” Rudd said. “I’m excited to expand my yachting life. And I’ll probably try to get better at brooding in really soft light. I like to ponder. I think this is going to help me become more inward and mysterious. And I’m looking forward to that.” Sigh. I rest my case. He IS totally perfect. Have a great weekend and thanks for reading us. We appreciate it. Please sell something.

Former US astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, recently remarried for the fourth time, which also happened to be on the occasion of his 93rd birthday. This time it was to Dr. Anca Faur, his 63-year-old, long-time companion (who looks like she wants to be 27), has a PhD in chemical engineering, and is now the executive vice president of Aldrin’s company, Buzz Aldrin Ventures.  He was first married to Joan Ann Archer in 1954 until divorcing in 1974. The next year he married Beverly Van Zile; they divorced after three years. His third marriage was to Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988 on Valentine's Day, divorcing 23 years later. Looks like he hasn’t given up on ‘love’ quite yet. He has sued two of his children and his former business manager claiming they stole money from him and are slandering his legacy, and that they also undermined his "personal romantic relationships" by forbidding him from getting married. His children say he is also spending money at an alarming rate. Sounds like those children are out of luck. There is a new sheriff in town and her name is MRS. Aldrin. ☹ Notes: Aldrin is also a strong advocate for human exploration of Mars. In 2002, he escaped assault charges after punching a man who demanded he swear on a Bible that the Moon landing was not staged. Good for him. He also said, “Tang sucks. “
