What I Heard This Week 03-14-2024

What I Heard This Week March 13, 2024

It’s not easy being green. Kermit the Frog

Miller64, the ultra-light beer from Molson Coors (which I have never seen or purchased at the store, (probably because I’m hanging around the really good high calorie stouts). Anyway… what was I telling you? They are rebranding to Miller Extra Light – now flaunting their low alcohol content (2.8% ABV), instead of the low (64) calories in a 12 ounce can. Their advertising campaign debuts in April and will have some kind of presence in pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the country. The new Miller Extra Light will also be available in 24-ounce cans which it seems, is very popular with the convenience store crowd – you know who I’m talking about, those that put their open can in a brown bag so the rest of us have no clue that they’re drinking… hmmm.

May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you are going and the insight to know when you have gone too far. Irish Proverb

Rupert Murdoch first tied the knot in 1956, married for 11 years with one child. He married his second wife in 1967 and remained married for 32 years with three children. He married his third wife in 1999, was married for about 14 years and had two children. He was married to Jerry Hall from 2016 to 2022, with no children, but she was SO OLD. About a year ago, he announced his engagement to a retired dental hygienist and former San Francisco police chaplain but broke off that engagement after just two weeks. Rupert Murdoch (92) is now engaged to a retired molecular biologist (62) with plans to marry in June on his California vineyard and estate, Moraga. She was previously married to a billionaire. Must be love this time.

Be sure to wear green on March seventeen, or else Irish leprechauns pinch your bones clean! Richelle E. Goodrich

Two young Colorado women vacationing in Playa Del Carmen, visited a pharmacy there and bought what they thought was oxycodone for a friend, then smuggled the drugs back into the U.S. in multi-vitamin containers, where their friend then paid $300 for the drugs they delivered. The next morning the guy’s roommate found him dead, and a lab analysis found that the pills contained fentanyl. The “ladies” pleaded guilty and were given three-year’s probation and 240 hours of community service, along with paying $10,000 to a nonprofit that promotes substance abuse awareness. The victim’s family requested that the women avoid a prison sentence. Now come on, why did they get off so light? Smuggling drugs is smuggling drugs, no matter who you are…

In the long run, you make your own luck—good, bad, or indifferent. – Loretta Lynn

A 66-year-old NY man who killed a 20-year-old woman after she and her friends were lost and made a wrong turn into his driveway… was convicted, receiving 25 years. The group had lost cell service and realized they were at the wrong house then were pulling out when the man felt threatened, firing a warning shot with his shotgun, then said he tripped over nails sticking out of his deck, which caused him to fire a second shot that killed the woman. The group traveled five miles to call for help because they did not have cell service. Oh, and did I mention that he was also sentenced to 2.1/3 to 7 years for reckless endangerment and 1.1/3 to 4 years for tampering with physical evidence… to run consecutively. “Every person out there needs to know that you can’t murder someone because they accidentally pulled into your driveway,” the judge said.

May your home always be too small to hold all your friends. Irish Proverb

The article mentioned that Suzanne Somer’s (who died last year at 76) beloved 28-acre desert hideaway and five-building compound, was on the market again. She and her husband owned it for over 40 years, and it is accessible by an open-air funicular. Well, I didn’t know what a funicular was. According to the dictionary, it’s a cable railroad, especially one on a mountainside, in which ascending and descending cars are counterbalanced. Hmmm.

Here’s to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. A pretty girl and an honest one. A cold beer – and another one! Irish Proverb

Many schools are now bringing back the SAT/ACT test score system. A recent study at Harvard found that standardized test scores have more power for predicting academic success in college than GPA’s.  Brad Pitt will team up with Quentin Tarantino for a third time for The Movie Critic, said to be Tarantino’s last film. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone invested in Big Nose Whiskey described as really smoky whiskey. Another celebrity liquor. So, the Princess of Wales isn’t very good at Photoshop, making minor improvements on the family picture… but she seems to be a really good mom who just had some surgery and now has some extra time on her hands. If she was as good at Photoshop as she is a princess, then we would all be worried about our own jobs. I vote, leave her alone as she recovers. Jon Stewart called Marjorie Taylor Greene a bridge troll. Giggle…

Before the Ethan Crumbley school shooting in Michigan, the 15-year-old made an entry in his journal saying, “I will have to find where my dad hid my 9mm before I can shoot the school.” Then he wrote about having access to the gun (that his dad had bought him on Black Friday) and the ammo, along with an entry about having mental health issues, but his parents wouldn’t get him any help. So sad. His father, James Crumbley, had jail communication privileges restricted after threatening statements he made over the jailhouse phone and by mail while awaiting trial. Hmmm. Not smart.

Victor Allen’s Coffee Cinnamon Toast Crunch bottled Iced Coffee will be available at major retailers this month. I bet it’s great with rum. Just saying. For something that is also delicious, try the following.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cocktail
Ingredients:
3 oz. Rumchata
1 oz. Vanilla Vodka
½ oz. Fireball Whiskey
Cinnamon Sugar
Wet the rim of a lowball glass then roll the rim in the cinnamon sugar. Mix the three ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake and strain into the glass. Serve immediately. I like mine over ice.

May you be at the gates of heaven an hour before the devil knows you’re dead! Irish Proverb

During a recent Madonna concert, the superstar shouted to a fan in a wheelchair, “What are you doing sitting down over there? What are you doing sitting down?” Then, after walking to the end of the stage and realizing her mistake said, “Oh, OK. Politically incorrect, sorry about that. I’m glad you’re here.”

Here are a few things you might need to know about Leprechauns.
Leprechauns are fairies.
There are no female leprechauns.
There’s a leprechaun colony in Portland, Oregon.
Leprechaun means small body.
Sometimes leprechauns are red.
Leprechauns have a troublesome cousin called the clurichaun.
Leprechauns are the bankers and cobblers of the fairy world.
Leprechauns are sneaky.
But leprechauns can be generous if you’re kind to them.
In 1989, a man claimed to have found the remains of an actual leprechaun.
Leprechauns are protected under European law and have their own sanctuary.
Some believe that leprechauns can live underwater.
Leprechauns might have a divine heritage.
You can pretend to be a leprechaun for a good cause.
You can make your own leprechaun trap.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Don’t forget to wear green so the leprechauns don’t pinch your bones clean.

What I Heard This Week 10-20-2022

What I Heard This Week October 19, 2022

In high school, a million years ago, Taco Bell was the most amazing place for all of us – it stayed open until 10pm, and that seemed like all-night to us at the time. I have just never lost my love for their Crunchy Tacos and Burrito Supremes. Between Thursday, October 20th and Monday, October 24th, you can get a free Crunchy Taco when you spend $12 or more. The deal is valid on all qualifying orders during lunch hours, between 11 am and 2 pm.

You can always tell when I am hungry, I write about food. At Olive Garden, they are now offering alcohol delivery with $18 select bottles of wine and $10 Bud Light six-packs, but only with purchase of food. At Wendy’s, the Boo Book is back. For just a dollar, you can get a coupon book that gives you five free junior Frosty’s through October 31st. Plus, you’ll be supporting the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. I went online and ordered several books for my Halloween treats. They’re waiting for me at the drive-thru. I will be the talk of the neighborhood this year. For a limited time At Carl’s Jr. grab a Double Cheeseburger, California Classic Double Cheeseburger, or Bacon Double Cheeseburger for $2.99 all month. I love their Lettuce Wrapped Hamburgers. At Domino’s take 20% off all menu-priced items when you order online.

The Brazosport Art League is presenting Images from Life, Our Views, the art of Lil ’anna Klein and Ron White, two incredibly talented local artists. Their work will be on display October 18th to November 13th at the Gallery for the Center of Arts and Sciences, 400 College Blvd. Sponsor for this event is 24HourNation.

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones says that Sandy Hook families will not get his money after the courts awarded eight families almost $1 BILLION for him calling the shooting a hoax. What he doesn’t understand is that those families just wanted him to apologize after receiving online hate, some of them having to move repeatedly for their own safety, some of his followers even desecrating the children’s graves by urinating on them and threatening to dig them up. Can you imagine being told that your child’s death was not real – that you had actually killed and dismembered your own child? There is no amount of money that can replace their children or the grief, but people seem to be very vulnerable to misinformation right now. Perhaps we will all learn to think for ourselves again soon.

Many years ago (many), my friend Susan lived here in LJ, and we had so many wonderful adventures and vacations together. She now lives in North Carolina and plays Pickleball. I just sent her a PICKLE t-shirt this week (because I love her.) I have continued to read what I can about the Pickleball sport, but I’m just not coordinated enough to play…  but it really does pique my interest. Pickleball is America’s fastest-growing sport with more than 4.8 million players in 2021. Enter Los Angeles Lakers basketball great Mr. LeBron James, along with his investment group, who have just purchased the rights to a Major League Pickleball team. Then today I was reading about Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, the latest superstar athlete (and part of an ownership group that includes Tennis Hall of Famer Kim Clijsters) to purchase the rights to a Major League Pickleball team. The MLP now plans to expand from 12 to 16 teams. Add Draymond Green, Kevin Love and Super Bowl champ Drew Brees, as well as billionaire investor and Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry and former tennis star James Blake, to the pickleball list. This should be fun. Who would have guessed… a new sport that is not a head-banger.

To all my friends and readers that are going through cancer treatment right now…  I am so proud of you. What a huge challenge. I am so honored when you share the good and the bad with me during this time. I only wish that there were boxes of cancer-cure band-aids that I could pick up for you at HEB, or a sweet-tasting vitamin cure I could feed you, even a special brew that would make it all better. Those of us that have been through something like this know how hard it is. We just wish we could pick you up and take you straight into the future.

Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane who was best known for his role as the lovable half-giant, half-human gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, died at just 72. The actor had struggled with his health for years and was spotted using a wheelchair in 2019 after speaking out about his osteoarthritis years prior which had disintegrated the cartilage in his knees. He was certainly one of a kind. He once stated, “Everybody in the world would like a really big, huge, strong, good man on their side, simple as that. That’s the attraction of Superman and these things,” he said. “Hagrid was always obviously the good guy, wasn’t he?”

Don’t forget to make your voting plan… go with a friend and make it a fun day. Here are a few thoughts and security tips to stay safe during elections in 2022. I cannot believe it is necessary to even think this.

  1. Do not argue about politics in public. Never.
  2. Vote, then get back home. Do not loiter at the polls.
  3. Do not criticize any politician. Do not talk recklessly. Never.
  4. Listen to a trusted news source. Always.
  5. Do not disclose who you will vote for at the polls.
  6. Only vote once. Duh.
  7. Celebrate your candidate wins in a civil manner.
  8. Do not partake in violence. Another duh.

Next week we can discuss how to properly wear a bulletproof vest, (one inch below the clavicle notch), where it the safest and best shows off the color of your eyes. If you are going to wear one, it might as well look good on you.

A giant Warsaw grouper was landed at the Destin Fishing Rodeo last week that weighed nearly 350 pounds – 333.8 pounds after he was gutted. I guess you must gut all tournament fish now in case someone added additional pounds with weights, ice cubes, rocks, and fish filets. He was empty.

The remains of a pregnant woman murdered in England by her husband in 1999, were found recently during a garden excavation. She had been reported missing by her husband who denied responsibility for his wife’s disappearance, but he was still found guilty of murder and received a life sentence but not until 2019. It was believed he was having an affair with a 15-year-old girl at the time. No body until now.

Amid a historic drought and record water shortages, the city of Coalinga, California is expected to run out of water in just two months. Russia is grabbing men off the streets to fight in Ukraine. An unopened first-generation iPhone from 2007 in its original box could auction for more than $30,000, 50 times its original price. Thanks to RJ for the quilting jokes. Marlon Brando, often unprepared for filming, once read his lines for Superman from the bottom of the baby’s diaper. The cost of candy is up 13%.

The Galveston Railroad Museum is celebrating the return of The Polar Express Train Ride on Galveston Island from November 11th to December 23rd. Passengers will relive the magic of the classic story on a one-hour trip to meet Santa. Golden tickets, the North Pole, hot chocolate, and a cookie are served by dancing chefs. Wear your pajamas. www.GalvestonRRMuseum.org. (I WANT TO GO!!)

After an 80% population drop in snow crabs in the past 4 years, Alaska has canceled the fall Bristol Bay red king crab harvest and is also holding off on the winter harvest of snow crab. Snow crab populations dropped after a 2019 Bering Seas warming. “Management of Bering Sea snow crab must now focus on conservation and rebuilding given the condition of the stock.”  – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Protecting the ocean is what friends are for.

OK, this is the last time I am talking about Herschel Walker. In January, Walker announced he had just found out from his mother that he is 40 percent Native American. He has repeated this information with a new and different twist several times since, even using a 23andMe ancestry test. Last month he claimed that his mom had just told him that that his grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee. Cherokee Nation says they have no record of Walker in their database. Walker’s mother says, “she has no idea if an immediate ancestor was full-blooded Cherokee.”  So, his momma won’t even back up his story.

A Los Angeles man filed a lawsuit in California against Texas Pete Hot Sauce. The bottle has a label with a white star (like the Texas flag) and an all-red cartoon cowboy, which he believed made the hot sauce distinctly Texas. However, the sauce originated at a Winston-Salem, North Carolina barbeque restaurant in 1929. The LA man says it is false advertising, and he wants them to change the name, brand, and then pay up. Well, I had to think about this. False advertising. Does that mean that sweetbreads are really sweet bread? Does that mean that Rocky Mountain oysters come from the ocean? Why is toasted bread with melted cheese sauce called Welsh Rabbit? I’m just not sure I can live another day without monetary compensation for all the misinformation that could be solved by picking up a can or bottle and reading the label. Have a wonderful week. Thank you for sharing your time with us.

What I Heard This Week! April 25, 2019

What I Heard This Week April 25, 2019

This is long but well worth reading. Last week I told you about the grandmother that carried her granddaughter for nine months as a surrogate mother (incubator) for her son and son-in-law. Families now come in all sizes and shapes. In a nest on the Upper Mississippi River Refuge, there are three eagles – two dads and one mom – raising three, fluffy-feathered eaglets. The dads are Valor I and Valor II, and the mom is Starr. They all take part in nest maintenance, incubation and are now raising their young. Let’s see if I can get the story right. Several years ago, Valor I and a female named Hope were shacking up. Valor I was not the best mate or dad. So immature, wanting to spend time with his pals doing dumb young eagle stuff. He only had two jobs…to bring in food and sit on the nest. He chose not to do either of these things very well. Very irresponsible. Wouldn’t sit on the nest for more than 10 minutes at a time – wouldn’t bring back food so Starr had to leave the nest unattended to go find her own food. Well, Hope was fed up until Valor II fluttered in one day. He was an instant hit. By 2016 the trio were cooperatively nesting. Even Valor I had stepped up to the plate and was contributing more than just a slug’s pace – likely motivated by his new male counterpart, the strong, independent, good-looking Valor II. Then a horrible thing happened. Two new adult male eagles attacked the nest. It was all captured on video as the attack lasted more than an hour and when it was over, Hope was gone. Two days later, two more eagles attacked the nest a second time. Valor I and Valor II defended the chicks and no injuries were observed, but daily attacks occurred for weeks as the dads continued to raise and protect the chicks without a mom. Recently the two males got on Match.com and found a new female partner named Starr who laid three eggs this spring and the three of them are happily raising their chicks together. I love happy endings with an unpredictable start.

George Clooney has called for the boycott of nine luxury hotels, including the Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air, owned by the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, after the country enacted laws that would make homosexual activity punishable by death by stoning.

Do you have an American flag in your garage that you need to properly dispose of?  1.) You can fold it, place on a hot fire, then bury the ashes.  2.) You can cut it up (do not tear because this is disrespectful) until it is no longer an official US flag but be careful not to cut into the blue star field – it needs to remain whole, then dispose of it as you see fit. The blue star field represents the unity of the U.S. states, and cutting into that section is considered a symbolic attempt to disrupt that unity.  3.) You can fold, then bury the flag (but put it in a box first because touching the soil is considered disrespectful.)  4.) Fold, then give the flag to a qualified organization like American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, or Scouts BSA who will properly dispose of your flag.  5.) There are companies that specialize in recycling old flags. Depending on the company, they may ask for a donation for the service. OR you can dispose of it at the Freeport City Hall lobby or Baywood Foods in specially shaped triangular drop-boxes and the Concerned Citizens of Freeport will dispose of the flag for you in a proper and respectful way. This sounds like the best solution. Thank you, concerned citizens for helping us be more respectful.

For those of you that are gluten-free or cook for someone that is gluten-free, I have great news. Papa John’s now has a gluten-free pizza. Woohoo. And it tastes good, according to my oldest child.

Mary Kay Letourneau, 57, and her husband Vili Fualaau, 35, are divorcing after 14 years of marriage. If you remember, the two of them first came to our attention when he was 12 and she was his sixth-grade teacher. Letourneau served six years in prison in connection with the relationship after pleading guilty to two counts of felony second-degree rape of a child. They wed in 2005 and are parents to daughters Audrey (21) and Georgia (20). In addition, she has four children from her previous marriage. Sigh.0

RECENT BIRTHDAYS: Italian actress sex symbol Claudia Cardinale is 81. Pink Panther. Writer producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is 72. Designing Women and Evening Shade. Actress screenwriter activist author and comedian Emma Thompson is 60. Isn’t she the best? Little Prince Louis is 1. Country singer Loretta Lynn is 87. Actress Julie Christie is 79. Doctor Zhivago. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore is 74. Deep Purple. Actor Brad Garrett is 59. Everybody Loves Raymond.

Country singer Chris Stapleton is 41. Singer Bobby Vinton is 84. Blue Velvet. Actress Ellen Barkin is 65. Actor Peter Billingsley is 48. Ralphie in A Christmas Story. Actress Olivia Hussey is 68. Romeo and Juliet. Actress Jennifer Garner is 47. Singer Victoria Beckham is 45. Spice Girls. Actress Hayley Mills is 73. Pollyanna and The Parent Trap. Actor James Woods is 72. Actress Cindy Pickett is 72.  The mom in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.  Actor Rick Moranis is 66. Honey, I shrunk the Kids.

Actor John James is 63.  Jeff Colby on Dynasty and The Colbys. Actor Tom Hughes is 34. Prince Albert in Victoria. Actress Vanessa Kirby is 31. Princess Margaret in The Crown. Actress Emma Watson is 29. Harry Potter. I’m on the 5th book in the series right now and the movies just don’t do it justice. The books are so special. I don’t care what your age is. It just pulls you in and holds you tight. I went to visit my 85-year-old aunt this weekend in Waco and we were talking about books and when I explained what I was reading, she said, “I just loved Harry Potter. I read the whole series.”

Art Paul, the magazine designer who created Playboy’s famous tuxedoed bunny head logo, died at 93.

Donald Featherstone, the creator of the tacky pink plastic lawn flamingo has died at 79. He was a trained sculptor with a classical art background and created the flamingo in 1957 for a plastics company that he worked for, modeling it after a bird he saw in National Geographic. Millions and millions of the pink plastic birds have been sold but the debate continues…is it lawn junk or lawn art? When my sister was married, I bought her a BIG pink flamingo for her yard.  I think tacky ‘art.’

Patrick Macnee, who played a stylish secret agent, John Steed, on the 60’s TV series “The Avengers,” died at 93. His character was partnered with Diana Rigg, who played agent Emma Peel.

Tania Mallet, model, cover girl and actress who starred in the 1964 (3rd) James Bond movie, Goldfinger, died at 77. When I was a kid in Waco, we went to the Circle Drive-in as a family. I remember the gravel drive, plus the smell of corned dogs, popcorn, giant dill pickles and hot dogs. My parents brought their webbed green lawn chairs and quilts so we could sit outside. There was an ice-chest full of bologna sandwiches, Fritos and sweet iced tea. The first film was always a (G) family movie, then my sisters and I were required to go to sleep in the back of the station wagon before the second feature, often rated PG for Parental Guidance. Intermission consisted of a visit to the playground, Roadrunner, Tweety & Sylvester cartoons, constant reminders to replace the speaker on post before you drive away, and of course, a trip to the snack bar for refreshments including scads of golden, pure, creamery butter on your popcorn, all while there was a countdown of minutes left until the second feature. When someone walked in front of the projection machine, you could see them on the big screen. My, how I regress. Back to Goldfinger. I can remember pretending to go to sleep, then very quietly raising up and was shocked to see a woman that was almost naked and spray-painted gold. Such an awesome time of life.

Drive-In’s: They also had dusk-to-dawn shows where there were 6 full-length features, all different. Bet they made massive amounts of money at the snack bar on those evenings. Now we call it binge-watching in front of the TV or computer with GrubHub, or Waitr delivering straight to your front door.

In Norway last month, electric cars outsold fossil fuel-powered ones with 58.4% of new cars being battery powered. Wow. Norway has provided big incentives to boost sales and it worked. Their Parliament has voted to require that all new cars sold be electric by 2025. They are doing their part.

The Rolling Stones postponed their N. American tour due to Mick Jagger needing to have surgery for a failing heart valve. He is now doing well, expected to make a full recovery and the tour will reschedule.

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport that no one knows about. According to Wikipedia: “Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle Ball, over a net. The sport shares features of other racquet sports, the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, and a net and rules somewhat like tennis, with several modifications. Pickleball was invented in the mid-1960’s as a children’s backyard pastime.”  I watched a YouTube video and it looks like ping pong-tennis with a slightly bigger ping-pong paddle. The sound that the ball makes when it hits the paddle is pretty sweet and according to the Walmart site, it’s fairly affordable to get started because your equipment consists of just a paddle and a ball. Basic. A Franklin Aluminum Pickleball Paddle was listed for $11.79. Pickleball is also considered a low-impact sport that’s easier on the joints. Now for the good part. The LJ Parks and Rec Dept. is offering open play sessions every week day. You can even rent your equipment. Jasmine Park tennis courts in LJ also have Pickleball lines. Hmmm.

Prince’s unfinished autobiography containing rare photos and handwritten lyrics will be released 10/29/19 and entitled, ‘The Beautiful Ones’ referring to a song that appeared on the Purple Rain album.

On Easter, after my kids left for UH, I decided that I needed a new kind of bird seed, so I rushed over to Tractor Supply. Dang, I forgot it was Easter so as I headed back home I noticed Walmart was open so I figured that I could get Weed & Feed while I was there. At the check-out counter, I thanked the girl for working on Easter, then asked her if there were any benefits to working on a holiday. She smiled and said there really wasn’t, except for the fact that she gets paid by the hour.  Cora, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for working on Sunday so the birds could have bird seed with fruit in it and my weeds will now soon die. Your attitude was great. Who can you say thank-you to, today?

Congratulations to Schelli Martin, JSL’s Sustainer of the Year.

Speaking of Walmart, their new commercials for grocery pick-up service are the best as they feature an abundance of famous rides from movies and TV shows. In case you didn’t catch all of them, they include: the Batmobile, ECTO-1 from the original Ghostbusters, K.I.T.T. the talking car from Knight Rider, Lightning McQueen from Cars, Mutt Cutts van from Dumb and Dumber, the Griswold’s 1979 Ford LTD Country Squire station wagon from Vacation, Mystery Machine van from Scooby Doo, the tour jeep from Jurassic Park, Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage, Fred Flintstone’s Flintmobile, Bumblebee Classic VW from Transformers, the DeLorean from Back to the Future and last but not least, Sam Walton’s signature red-and-white 1979 Ford F-150 pickup.

Earth Day was April 22. What’s the one small thing that you are going to do to help so everyday can be Earth Day! I make myself a ‘pour-over’ coffee each morning. Instead of pouring the water that I don’t use down the slink, I’m taking it outside and watering plants. Yes, sometimes it’s just a teeny-tiny bit but I’m still going to do it every day.

Have a great week and thanks for taking the time to read this. Lisa

Former US astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, recently remarried for the fourth time, which also happened to be on the occasion of his 93rd birthday. This time it was to Dr. Anca Faur, his 63-year-old, long-time companion (who looks like she wants to be 27), has a PhD in chemical engineering, and is now the executive vice president of Aldrin’s company, Buzz Aldrin Ventures.  He was first married to Joan Ann Archer in 1954 until divorcing in 1974. The next year he married Beverly Van Zile; they divorced after three years. His third marriage was to Lois Driggs Cannon in 1988 on Valentine's Day, divorcing 23 years later. Looks like he hasn’t given up on ‘love’ quite yet. He has sued two of his children and his former business manager claiming they stole money from him and are slandering his legacy, and that they also undermined his "personal romantic relationships" by forbidding him from getting married. His children say he is also spending money at an alarming rate. Sounds like those children are out of luck. There is a new sheriff in town and her name is MRS. Aldrin. ☹ Notes: Aldrin is also a strong advocate for human exploration of Mars. In 2002, he escaped assault charges after punching a man who demanded he swear on a Bible that the Moon landing was not staged. Good for him. He also said, “Tang sucks. “
