A 30-year-old Garland man has been charged with first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree larceny by extortion, unlawful restraint, and third-degree assault after he abducted a child and held him for ransom. Police managed to trace his cellphone number to a hotel room where they found the child face down in the bathtub with a 3-ft alligator (mouth wide open) on top of the child. Police said that the child also had burn marks, one on his face and forearm, where he said the kidnapper had burned him with a BBQ lighter after tying him up. What the heck! Alligators and BBQ lighters.

In Longview, a woman delivered one of her twins on January 13th, then the second twin arrived one week later. Texas lawmakers have filed bills that would allow 17-year-olds to vote in some state and county primary elections, not in congressional or presidential elections, if they turn 18 before the coinciding general election. The reason for this?!? Last November, early turnout for Texas under age 30 was 470% higher than in 2014. Those voters accounted for 8.1% of total turnout. Supporters of the bill say changing the law in Texas will get young people in the lifetime habit of voting. Pooh. As the mother of two under the age of 22, I know that it takes a special kid to finish his/her homework on time and properly done…most teens don’t have either time or an inclination to research a political hero while still in high school. But yes, there are definitely some exceptions…

Guards at a prison in England, found several bodies of rats with stitches on their stomachs. It seems that organized criminals had been stuffing the bodies with drugs, phones, cash and throwing them over walls of the prison to get contraband to inmates. Seizure of drugs, mobile phones and SIM cards had risen in a 12 month period and 20% of inmates had tested positive for drugs.

The 2019 Hot Wheels Legends Tour is coming to Houston on March 30th. For decades doctors thought that a daily low dose of aspirin could help prevent heart attacks and heart disease. However, recent findings say ‘maybe not’ for healthy adults and that it’s far more important for patients to focus on lifestyle changes (smoking, eating.) But, for older high-risk patients who have had a stroke, heart attack or open-heart surgery, it can be life-saving. Hmmm.
