The 2022 Super Bowl LVI will be on Sunday February 13th. Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre will perform on stage together for the first time. Yawn. I Googled, “How much do Super Bowl tickets cost?” and almost fell out of my chair. It said, “Prices for these start at roughly $7,500, and include one upper deck ticket and admission to a pre-party on Super Bowl Sunday. Large national ticket brokers, who speculate on how much fans will ultimately be willing to pay for Super Bowl seats, can also have a significant impact on Super Bowl ticket prices.” Super Bowl 2022 will be televised on NBC, stream live on Peacock, or NBC Sports App. NBC was originally scheduled to broadcast the 2021 game and CBS had the 2022 Super Bowl, but the two networks decided to swap years in order for NBC to have both the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics in 2022.
A British surgeon who branded his initials on patients’ livers, can no longer work as a doctor in the UK. He used a device called an argon beam coagulator to place his initials on the transplanted liver of his patients at the end of each surgery. This was discovered when an organ transplant failed, and another doctor performed surgery on his patient. Bet that was a surprise.
A New Hampshire man caught a state record burbot that measured 35 inches in length and weighing over 12 pounds. Freshwater cusk, otherwise known as burbot or by their scientific name Lota Lota are the only freshwater member of the cod family and are usually found in water with temperatures below 70 degrees, even living under the ice, with larger females capable of laying more than one million eggs. It was beautiful. I kept reading to see if perhaps it was a catch & release, but I think it must have been catch & eat or catch & stuff.
This is amazing. A U.S. man with terminal heart disease was successfully implanted with a genetically modified pig heart in a first-of- its-kind operation. The patient was ineligible for a conventional heart transplant because of his severe condition. Pig hearts are similar in size to human hearts and have an anatomy that is similar, but not identical. They modified 10 genes in the pig heart, with four genes knocked out, three of them responsible for producing antibodies that cause rejection. As I write this, the patient is doing well. I can’t say the same thing for the pig who said he was coerced by the other barnyard animals on Old MacDonalds’ farm to sign the organ donor card on his driver’s license.
A cat will look down to a man. A dog will look up to a man. But a pig will look you straight in the eye and see his equal. Sir Winston Churchill

Tennis legend Chris Evert had genetic testing done after her younger sister died of ovarian cancer, found late stage. Her testing showed she was at an increased risk for ovarian cancer, she had a preventive hysterectomy which showed a malignant tumor in her fallopian tube, which required surgery and chemotherapy, which she started this week.
Anonymous no more. Since she was found guilty last month, Ghislaine Maxwell will no longer fight to keep the names of eight “John Does” unsealed, and who have remained anonymous in court documents. Ms. Maxwell will now leave it up to the court to make that decision. John Does #53 and #54 have not opposed or objected to their names being unsealed. Hmmm. Inquiring minds want to know.

Ronnie Spector, known for 1960s hits such as “Be My Baby” and “Walking in the Rain,” died of cancer at 78. Spector led the Ronettes, was known for rocking cat-eye makeup and beehive hairdos. Amy Winehouse (think cat eye makeup and beehive), frequently cited Spector as her idol. Ronnie Spector was married to Phil Spector from ‘68 to ’74. She wrote about their time together in her memoir, Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts and Madness, describing her former husband as abusive and controlling. Now we totally understand.

What is a Karen? It is described as a woman who acts entitled, expects certain privileges or special treatment, is angered easily, self-absorbed, often affluent, or middle-aged, demanding and overly dramatic. I have friends named Karen, so I want you to know that I didn’t start this, I’m just repeating it, so don’t take offense. It’s my job to inform. 😊 What was it that Joe Friday said on Dragnet…? “Just the facts, ma’am.” Hmmm. Or was that Dan Aykroyd on SNL? Either way, it’s just crazy current information.
A Karen, driving a large SUV tried to cut and force herself into an existing already LONG line for coffee. It was videoed as the vehicles in the existing line scooted closer and closer together, not allowing the merge. When no one would let her in, she left. You can mess with Texas but don’t mess with our coffee!
Bank of America just became the biggest US financial institution to end fees for insufficient funds. It also plans to cut overdraft fees from $35 to $10. While I was at the post office this morning, I bought stamps. Selecting stamps is a very important job for me at the office. I want to encourage people to smile when they see the bill in the mail. So, I looked through the new stamps he presented and carefully chose. There they were, Message Monsters Stamps. Twenty stamps with silly little monsters, and an array of hats, conversation bubbles, and sweet sayings that you can add to your stamps to make them perfect. This could be the greatest gift for kids, along with a box of notecards. I am a firm believer that kids need to know how to write instead of emailing. I remember as a young girl of 13 or 14, taking a course where they taught us “bread and butter” note writing. It’s a short note thanking someone who has recently provided the writer with hospitality or perhaps, a gift. Let’s bring it back.
If Buc-ee’s was your regular pick-up spot for your weekly Source fix, along with gas, sweet tea, and a breakfast taco, then we have some bad news. We were told on Tuesday of last week that we would no longer be allowed to have a newspaper rack or papers at any of the Brazoria County Buc-ee’s stores, for the next day. I wrote Buc-ee’s and explained that we have tried to keep our racks clean and papers stacked nicely; if someone had only let us know what we were doing incorrectly, we would have changed our ways. I hope I word the following properly… We were told by their representative that all newspapers had been eliminated because there were several unsuitable publications that wanted the same privileges and space at their stores. Understood! Get rid of everyone. It is their property and their decision on what happens on their property, but that didn’t give us the time to let you know what was happening. For that we apologize. We are scrambling to locate new drops for these papers, but it may not be as convenient as it once was, at least for a while. Please help us by letting Buc-ee’s know that you want us back.
The Source Weekly is a free community newspaper full of community events, information about where to find a new car, landscaper, plumber, carpet cleaner, appliances, insurance, new home or apartment, where to get your deer processed, license to carry training or even a new chicken coop. You can put in a free garage sale ad and sell your junk, find the latest Crime Stoppers wanted fugitives, or where to get your car serviced. We tell our readers what bands are playing on the patio this weekend, when Rotary Shrimp Boil is happening (January 22nd), and when The Lion in the Winter is showing at The Center for the Arts and Sciences, right along with information about the guy that can grind that giant stump in your front yard. We will be missed by Buc-ee’s customers. Since Harvey and Covid, it has been rough for small businesses, and we support small business in the best way possible with affordable or free advertising. We have worked hard for the past 23 years to support this community and the people who live and work here. Please help us with a note, phone call, or email, to those that may have forgotten. Thanks. You’re the best! To those of you that have called our office to find a new location or came by to pick up a copy, we so appreciate you. Lisa
PS: My kids were going back to school this week, so I boiled a pretty little organic chicken to make a family favorite of chicken and dumplings. I cooked the chicken the day before, so it was possible for me to finish dinner in time for their departure the next evening. I was de-boning that chicken feeling pretty good about myself when out popped a red plastic bag, home to the heart, gizzard, and liver. Yep, still stuffed inside that poor chicken. We looked it up online to make sure it was safe to eat after boiling it all afternoon. They said yes. I haven’t made that mistake since I was about 18 years old. I think this is how it starts. Have a great week. Thanks for taking the time to find us and remember to just call the office if you can’t find a copy of The Source Weekly – we can send it straight to your inbox every single week and you can read it just like it’s on paper, but not. It’s just harder to take to the bathroom. 😊
